As the Head of Private Banking, you will assume full P&L responsibility for the division, driving its strategic direction, financial performance, and market expansion. The SVP, Head of Private Banking will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, encompassing strategic leadership, business development, team management, and operational excellence. Key duties include:
Strategic Vision and Divisional Leadership
Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive multi-year strategic plan for the Private Banking division that aligns with the bank’s overall corporate objectives. Drive innovation in product offerings, service delivery models, and client engagement strategies to establish a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
P&L Management and Financial Performance
Assume full ownership of the division’s profit and loss (P&L) statement. Develop annual budgets, revenue forecasts, and expense management plans. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as asset growth, revenue generation, profitability, and client acquisition, implementing corrective actions as needed to achieve and exceed financial targets.
Business Development and Market Expansion
Personally lead and direct business development efforts to acquire new HNW and UHNW clients. Proactively identify and pursue new market opportunities within the South Florida region. Develop and nurture a robust network of Centers of Influence (COIs), including attorneys, accountants, and other professionals, to generate a consistent pipeline of qualified referrals.
Team Leadership, Mentorship, and Development
Recruit, hire, train, and retain a world-class team of Private Bankers, Relationship Managers, and support staff. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on integrity, client success, and continuous improvement. Establish clear performance expectations, provide regular coaching and feedback, and create career development pathways for team members.
Holistic Wealth Management and Client Service Excellence
Champion a holistic advisory approach, ensuring clients receive comprehensive solutions that integrate investment management, credit and lending, trust and estate planning, and sophisticated financial planning. Act as the senior relationship manager for the bank’s most significant clients, ensuring their complex needs are met with the highest level of service and expertise.
Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance
Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and ensure all divisional activities are in strict compliance with federal and state regulations, including those set forth by the SEC, FINRA, and the OCC. Oversee the development and implementation of robust risk management frameworks and internal controls to protect the bank and its clients.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Foster strong partnerships with leaders of other bank divisions, including Commercial Banking, Retail Banking, and Treasury Management. Develop and implement effective cross-referral programs to deepen client relationships and maximize revenue opportunities across the entire organization.
Brand Ambassadorship and Community Engagement
Serve as a prominent representative of the bank within the Miami community. Actively participate in industry conferences, networking events, and civic organizations to enhance the bank’s visibility and reputation as a leader in private wealth management.
Requirements for the SVP, Head of Private Banking with a Mid-Market Bank – Miami, FL
The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with an impeccable track record of success in the private banking and wealth management industry. We are seeking a professional with the following qualifications:
Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in private banking, wealth management, or a closely related financial services field. At least 7 years of this experience must be in a significant leadership capacity, such as a Market President, Regional Director, or Head of Private Banking, with demonstrated P&L management responsibility.
Market Knowledge
Deep, established roots and a comprehensive understanding of the Miami / South Florida wealth management landscape is strongly preferred. A portable book of business and a robust, existing network of HNW/UHNW clients and COIs in the region is highly desirable.
Educational Background
A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
Active FINRA Series 7, 24, and 66 (or 63/65) licenses are required. Advanced professional designations such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA) are a significant asset and strongly encouraged.
Technical Expertise
Expert-level knowledge of the full spectrum of wealth management solutions, including investment strategies, asset allocation, portfolio management, custom credit solutions, trust services, and complex estate and tax planning concepts.
Leadership Acumen
Exceptional leadership qualities with the proven ability to inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing teams. A strategic thinker who can translate vision into actionable plans and tangible results.
Communication Skills
