The VP of M&A Integration will serve as the central nervous system for all post-merger activities. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a scalable, best-in-class integration framework that aligns with our client’s corporate strategy. This role requires a unique blend of strategic thinking, operational excellence, financial acumen, and exceptional leadership. You will lead the Integration Management Office (IMO) and collaborate with a diverse group of senior leaders across all functional areas—including Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR, and Legal—to ensure that every acquisition is a resounding success. Key Responsibilities of VP, M&A Integration with a Public FinTech – Boston, MA

Integration Strategy & Playbook Development

Design, build, and continuously refine a comprehensive M&A integration playbook that standardizes processes, tools, and governance. Tailor integration strategies based on the specific deal thesis, size, and complexity of each acquisition.

Leadership of the Integration Management Office (IMO)

Establish and lead a centralized IMO to oversee all integration activities from pre-close planning through post-close execution. Define the IMO charter, operating model, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for success.

Cross-Functional Team Orchestration

Act as the primary integration lead, directing and coordinating the efforts of dedicated, cross-functional workstream leaders from every department. Foster a collaborative environment, ensure clear communication, and hold teams accountable for delivering on their integration milestones.

Pre-Close Planning and Due Diligence

Partner with the Corporate Development team during the late stages of due diligence to assess integration risks and opportunities. Develop a preliminary integration plan, budget, and synergy case before the deal is signed.

Detailed Integration Execution

Create and manage detailed, time-bound integration project plans, covering all functional areas such as technology platforms, go-to-market strategies, financial reporting, human resources, and legal compliance. Proactively identify and resolve roadblocks to keep the integration on track.

Synergy and Value Realization

Develop detailed models for tracking both cost and revenue synergies. Implement robust tracking mechanisms and report progress regularly to the executive team and the board, ensuring the financial objectives of the acquisition are met or exceeded.

Stakeholder Communication and Management

Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan for all stakeholders, including employees of both companies, customers, partners, and investors. Provide regular, transparent updates on integration progress, challenges, and successes to the executive leadership team.

Change Management and Cultural Integration

Champion the cultural integration process. Develop and implement thoughtful change management strategies to foster a unified corporate culture, align incentives, and retain key talent from acquired companies. Conduct cultural assessments and create programs to bridge gaps.

Technology and Systems Integration

Oversee the highly complex process of integrating disparate technology stacks, enterprise systems (ERP, CRM), data architecture, and cybersecurity protocols. Ensure a seamless transition with minimal disruption to business operations and customer experience.

Post-Mortem and Continuous Improvement

After each integration, conduct a thorough post-mortem analysis to capture lessons learned. Use these insights to continuously improve the M&A integration playbook and enhance the company’s overall acquisition capabilities.

Requirements for the VP, M&A Integration with a Public FinTech – Boston, MA

Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field is required. An MBA or other relevant advanced degree is strongly preferred.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 12-15 years of professional experience, with at least 7-10 years in a dedicated M&A integration, corporate development, or management consulting role with a focus on post-merger integration (PMI).

Industry Expertise

Deep experience in the FinTech, software (SaaS), or financial services industries is essential. Must have a strong understanding of the unique operational, technological, and regulatory challenges in these sectors.

Public Company Experience

Prior experience working within or leading integrations for a publicly-traded company is a firm requirement. Familiarity with SOX compliance, public reporting standards, and investor relations is crucial.
