Key Responsibilities of VP of Global Sourcing – Chicago, IL
Global Sourcing Strategy Development & Execution
Design, develop, and implement comprehensive global sourcing strategies across all categories (direct and indirect spend) that align with business objectives, drive cost efficiency, quality improvements, and supply chain resilience.
Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing global sourcing and procurement team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth. Set clear objectives, provide regular feedback, and empower team members.
Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
Establish and nurture strategic relationships with key global suppliers, ensuring strong partnerships that drive innovation, quality, and mutual value. Develop and implement robust supplier performance management programs, including scorecards, regular business reviews, and corrective action plans.
Negotiation & Contract Management
Lead complex, high-stakes negotiations with global suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, quality, and delivery schedules. Oversee the development, review, and execution of all sourcing contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and company standards.
Cost Optimization & Value Creation
Identify and implement aggressive cost reduction initiatives, total cost of ownership (TCO) improvements, and value engineering opportunities without compromising quality or supply continuity. Drive spend analysis and identify opportunities for consolidation and leverage.
Risk Management & Supply Chain Resilience
Develop and execute strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks, including geopolitical, economic, natural disaster, and supplier-specific risks. Implement robust business continuity planning and multi-sourcing strategies.
Market Intelligence & Innovation
Continuously monitor global market trends, commodity price fluctuations, technological advancements, and geopolitical developments to inform sourcing strategies. Identify and introduce innovative sourcing approaches, technologies, and best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Influence
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across R&D, Operations, Manufacturing, Finance, Legal, and Sales to understand their needs, integrate sourcing strategies, and ensure alignment with business unit goals. Act as a trusted advisor and thought leader within the organization.
Sustainability & Ethical Sourcing
Champion and integrate sustainable and ethical sourcing practices into all procurement activities. Ensure compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, and promote responsible supply chain practices.
Performance Measurement & Reporting
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for the global sourcing function. Regularly report on performance, savings, risk mitigation, and strategic initiatives to executive leadership.
Technology & Process Improvement
Drive the adoption and optimization of e-procurement systems, spend analytics tools, and other relevant technologies to streamline processes, enhance data visibility, and improve decision-making.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure all sourcing activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and international trade laws. Establish and maintain strong governance frameworks for procurement processes.
Requirements for the VP of Global Sourcing – Chicago, IL
Experience
A minimum of 15-20 years of progressive experience in global sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership role overseeing a global function. Demonstrated success in transforming sourcing organizations and delivering substantial value.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
