Key Responsibilities of Chief Supply Chain Officer with a Global Manufacturer – Atlanta, GA

Strategic Leadership & Vision

Develop and implement a comprehensive, forward-thinking global supply chain strategy that aligns with the company’s overall business objectives, growth plans, and commitment to sustainability. Champion a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across the entire organization.

End-to-End Supply Chain Management

Provide executive oversight for all aspects of the supply chain, including demand planning, procurement, strategic sourcing, materials management, inventory control, logistics, warehousing, and global distribution. Ensure seamless integration and communication across all functional areas.

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)

Lead the global S&OP process to ensure alignment between sales forecasts, production capacity, and inventory levels. Drive cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to achieve optimal balance of service, cost, and cash flow.

Operational Excellence & Cost Optimization

Identify and execute initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, and optimize working capital. Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to streamline processes, eliminate waste, and enhance productivity across all supply chain operations.

Technology & Digital Transformation

Spearhead the adoption and optimization of supply chain technologies, including ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and advanced planning systems. Champion the use of data analytics, AI, and machine learning to improve forecasting, visibility, and decision-making.

Global Logistics & Distribution Network Design

Continuously evaluate and optimize the global logistics and distribution network to improve service levels, reduce lead times, and minimize transportation costs. Manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and freight carriers to ensure performance and cost-effectiveness.

Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

Develop and execute global sourcing strategies to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply of raw materials and components. Foster strong, long-term relationships with key suppliers, negotiate favorable terms, and implement robust supplier performance management programs.

Risk Management & Resiliency

Develop and maintain a robust supply chain risk management framework. Proactively identify potential disruptions (geopolitical, economic, environmental) and develop mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity and build a resilient supply chain. Ensure compliance with all international trade regulations and legal requirements.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global supply chain organization. Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture, set clear performance expectations, and build a talent pipeline to support future growth.

Sustainability & ESG Initiatives

Integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into the supply chain strategy. Drive initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint, promote ethical sourcing, and enhance supply chain transparency in line with corporate sustainability goals.

Requirements for the Chief Supply Chain Officer with a Global Manufacturer – Atlanta, GA

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.

Executive Experience

A minimum of 15-20 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Vice President, Senior Director) overseeing a complex, global supply chain within a manufacturing environment.

Global Expertise

Demonstrable experience managing international supply chains, including sourcing from, and distributing to, multiple continents. Deep understanding of global trade compliance, tariffs, and international logistics.

Strategic Acumen

Proven ability to develop and execute successful long-term supply chain strategies that have delivered measurable business results, including cost savings, service level improvements, and enhanced operational efficiency.

Technical Proficiency

Extensive experience with Tier 1 ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) and a strong understanding of modern SCM software, including WMS, TMS, and advanced planning tools. Must be data-driven and proficient in using analytics to inform strategic decisions.

Leadership Skills

Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. A proven ability to lead and inspire large, geographically dispersed teams and to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization, including the C-suite and Board of Directors.

Change Management

A track record as a successful change agent, with experience leading significant transformation initiatives, such as technology implementations, process re-engineering, or post-merger integrations.

Financial Acumen

Strong financial and analytical skills, with experience managing large budgets, developing business cases for capital investments, and understanding the impact of supply chain performance on the P&L and balance sheet.

Certifications

Professional certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) from ASCM/APICS or a similar credential are highly desirable.
