Executive Leadership & IT Strategy
Serve as a key member of the senior executive team, providing technology vision and leadership. Develop and execute a comprehensive, forward-looking IT strategy and roadmap that is tightly aligned with the company’s strategic objectives, growth plans, and financial goals. Articulate the technology vision to the board, investors, and internal stakeholders.
Technology Infrastructure & Operations
Oversee the design, implementation, and management of a scalable, reliable, and cost-effective IT infrastructure. This includes network architecture, cloud services (Azure/AWS), data centers, and end-user computing. Ensure high levels of system availability, performance, and user satisfaction.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
Architect and lead a comprehensive enterprise-wide information security and cybersecurity program. Establish robust policies, procedures, and controls to protect sensitive patient and corporate data. Ensure unwavering compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, most notably HIPAA, and other standards such as HITRUST and SOC 2. Develop and maintain a comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
M&A Technology Integration
Play a pivotal role in the company’s M&A strategy by leading all technology-related due diligence for potential acquisitions. Following an acquisition, develop and execute a detailed integration plan to seamlessly merge systems, data, and teams, ensuring rapid synergy capture and minimal business disruption.
Data Governance & Business Intelligence
Champion a data-driven culture across the organization. Develop and implement a robust data governance framework. Oversee the company’s data architecture, analytics, and business intelligence platforms to provide actionable insights that support strategic decision-making, operational efficiency, and product development.
Digital Transformation & Product Innovation
Partner with product and business leaders to drive digital innovation. Identify and evaluate emerging technologies (AI/ML, telehealth, IoT) that can enhance the company’s service offerings, improve the customer experience, and create new revenue streams.
Vendor Management & Financial Stewardship
Develop and manage the annual IT operating and capital budgets, ensuring investments are aligned with strategic priorities and deliver a strong return on investment. Lead negotiations and manage relationships with key technology vendors, partners, and service providers to ensure optimal value and performance.
Team Development & Mentorship
Recruit, lead, and mentor a high-performing, agile, and collaborative technology team. Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. Structure the IT organization to effectively support the company’s rapid growth and evolving needs.
Requirements for the Chief Information Officer (CIO) with a PE-backed HealthTech – Baltimore, MD
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in technology, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership capacity (e.g., CIO, CTO, VP of IT) with broad responsibility over infrastructure, security, and applications.
Private Equity Environment
Demonstrable experience working within a private equity-backed company is strongly preferred. Must possess a deep understanding of the pace, metrics (e.g., EBITDA focus), and value-creation mindset inherent in a PE environment. Proven experience leading technology through a successful transaction/exit is a significant plus.
HealthTech Industry Expertise
Significant experience in the healthcare technology (HealthTech), medical device, or a related healthcare services sector is mandatory. Must have a strong grasp of the unique challenges of the industry, including EMR/EHR systems, clinical data management, interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR), and the complex regulatory landscape.
M&A Integration Mastery
Proven, hands-on experience leading the technology diligence and post-merger integration of multiple acquisitions. Must be able to demonstrate a successful track record of creating and executing a scalable integration playbook.
Technical & Strategic Acumen
Broad knowledge of modern technology stacks, including cloud infrastructure (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS), enterprise architecture, modern cybersecurity frameworks, data analytics platforms, and agile development methodologies. Must be able to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language for non-technical stakeholders.
Leadership & Communication Skills
Exceptional executive presence, with the ability to influence and build credibility with the C-suite, Board of Directors, and PE sponsors. Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills. A proven change agent who can lead teams through ambiguity and transformation.
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable.
