Key Responsibilities of CFO, Private Equity with a PE Portfolio Company – Atlanta, GA
The Chief Financial Officer will have a broad range of responsibilities, encompassing strategic leadership, financial operations, and investor relations. Success in this role requires a proactive and decisive leader who can manage the following key areas:
Strategic Financial Leadership & M&A
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute the company’s long-term strategic plan, providing financial modeling, analysis, and insights to support key decisions.
- Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and PE sponsor expectations.
- Drive the M&A strategy, from identifying and evaluating potential acquisition targets to leading financial due diligence, negotiating terms, and overseeing post-merger integration to realize synergies.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to support valuation, investment analysis, and capital allocation decisions.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Build and lead a high-performing FP&A function that serves as a true business partner to the organization, providing actionable insights and data-driven recommendations.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and SaaS metrics (e.g., ARR, LTV:CAC, Net Revenue Retention, Churn) to drive performance and accountability across all departments.
- Prepare and present comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for the executive team, Board of Directors, and private equity sponsor.
- Conduct in-depth variance analysis, cohort analysis, and other ad-hoc financial analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Accounting, Control, and Systems
- Oversee all accounting operations, including the monthly close process, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition (ASC 606).
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal control environment to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
- Lead the selection and implementation of scalable financial systems and tools (ERP, BI, CPM) to support growth and improve efficiency.
- Manage the annual external audit process and maintain a strong relationship with the audit firm.
Treasury, Capital Management, and Investor Relations
- Manage the company’s liquidity, cash flow, and banking relationships to ensure optimal capital structure and support operational needs.
- Oversee debt covenant compliance and reporting.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for the private equity sponsor, lenders, and other key financial stakeholders, fostering relationships built on transparency and trust.
- Play a critical role in future capital raising activities and manage the financial aspects of the exit process (e.g., IPO readiness, sell-side due diligence).

We are seeking a seasoned and accomplished finance executive with a proven track record of success in a private equity-backed environment. The qualifications for this role are stringent and reflect the high-impact nature of the position.
Professional Experience
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position (e.g., CFO, VP of Finance).
Mandatory
Prior experience as the #1 or #2 finance leader within a private equity-backed company is required.
- Demonstrated success in scaling a company through a significant growth phase. Experience managing a company with revenues between $50M and $250M is highly preferred.
- Proven experience in the B2B SaaS or software industry is strongly preferred, with a deep understanding of relevant business models and metrics.
- Substantial M&A experience, including target evaluation, due diligence, and post-acquisition integration.
- Experience leading a company through a successful exit (sale to a strategic buyer or another financial sponsor) is a significant plus.
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is required.
- An MBA from a top-tier institution and/or a CPA designation is highly preferred.
