Key Responsibilities of VP, Supply Chain Transformation with a Food Manufacturer – Sacramento, CA

As the Vice President of Supply Chain Transformation, you will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, fundamentally reshaping the operational backbone of the company. Your duties will include:

Strategic Vision & Roadmap Development

Develop and champion a comprehensive, multi-year supply chain transformation strategy. Conduct a thorough assessment of the current state, identifying key areas for improvement in processes, technology, and organizational structure. Create a detailed roadmap with clear milestones, KPIs, and financial targets to achieve a best-in-class supply chain operation.

Network Optimization & Design

Lead initiatives to optimize the entire distribution and manufacturing network. Analyze and model network scenarios to improve service levels, reduce transportation costs, and minimize lead times. Make strategic recommendations on facility locations, capacity planning, and inventory positioning across the network.

Technology & Digital Transformation

Spearhead the selection and implementation of next-generation supply chain technologies, including advanced planning systems (APS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and ERP enhancements. Leverage AI, machine learning, and IoT to improve forecasting, automate processes, and gain real-time visibility.

Process Reengineering & Continuous Improvement

Drive operational excellence by implementing Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies. Redesign and standardize core processes, including Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), demand planning, inventory management, and order-to-cash cycles. Foster a culture where every team member is empowered to identify and eliminate waste.

Procurement & Strategic Sourcing

Transform the procurement function from a tactical purchasing group to a strategic sourcing powerhouse. Develop robust category management strategies, build strong supplier relationships, and negotiate favorable terms to reduce costs, mitigate risks, and ensure supply continuity, particularly for critical raw materials and ingredients.

Logistics & Fulfillment Excellence

Oversee all aspects of warehousing, transportation, and final-mile delivery. Implement strategies to enhance warehouse efficiency, reduce freight costs, and improve on-time delivery performance. Evaluate and manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers to ensure they meet stringent performance and quality standards.

Leadership & Talent Development

Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing supply chain organization. Attract, retain, and develop top talent. Set clear performance expectations, provide regular coaching, and create career development pathways to build a strong leadership pipeline within the supply chain function.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Change Management

Serve as a key partner to executive peers in Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Operations. Lead the S&OP process to ensure tight alignment between demand forecasts and supply plans. Champion change management initiatives to ensure smooth adoption of new processes and systems across the organization.

Financial & Performance Management

Develop and manage the annual supply chain budget, including capital expenditure requests for transformation projects. Establish and rigorously monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across all supply chain functions, reporting on progress to the executive team and driving accountability for results.

Requirements for the VP, Supply Chain Transformation with a Food Manufacturer – Sacramento, CA

We are seeking a seasoned and accomplished executive with a deep understanding of modern supply chain management principles and a passion for driving transformational change. The successful candidate will possess:

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.

Executive Experience

A minimum of 15+ years of progressive supply chain experience, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership role (Director, Sr. Director, or VP level) overseeing large, complex supply chain operations.

Industry Expertise

Significant experience within the food & beverage manufacturing, CPG, or a related industry with complex supply chains involving perishable goods, temperature control (cold chain), and high-velocity distribution is essential.

Transformation Leadership

Demonstrable, hands-on experience leading at least one major, end-to-end supply chain transformation project. This includes strategy development, technology implementation (ERP, WMS, TMS), process reengineering, and change management.

Technical & Analytical Skills

Deep expertise in supply chain principles, including network modeling, S&OP, demand forecasting, inventory optimization, and logistics management. Strong proficiency with data analysis and using analytics to drive business decisions.

Process Improvement Acumen

Certification and/or extensive practical experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is highly desirable.

Leadership Qualities

Exceptional leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels, from the boardroom to the warehouse floor. A proven ability to build, inspire, and develop high-performing teams.

Financial Acumen
