Key Responsibilities of Operating Partner, Healthcare IT with a Growth Equity Firm – Nashville, TN
The Operating Partner’s responsibilities are broad and dynamic, requiring a seamless transition between strategic thinking and tactical execution. You will be a critical resource for both the investment firm and its portfolio companies.
Investment Due Diligence & Strategy
Collaborate closely with the deal team during the pre-investment phase. Lead operational, technological, and commercial due diligence on potential targets. Assess the scalability of products, the strength of the management team, and the viability of the go-to-market strategy. Develop detailed value creation theses and post-acquisition roadmaps that form the foundation of the investment case.
Portfolio Company Leadership & Governance
Act as a primary operational resource for portfolio company CEOs and their leadership teams. Often, this includes taking a board seat and providing active governance. In some cases, you may serve as an interim executive (e.g., CEO, COO) to stabilize or accelerate a company’s performance. You will be the bridge between the board’s strategic objectives and the management team’s execution.
Strategic Planning & Execution
Lead the development and implementation of critical strategic initiatives, including the pivotal 100-day plan post-acquisition. Guide portfolio companies in creating and executing long-term strategic plans focused on sustainable, profitable growth. This includes market expansion, product line extension, and competitive positioning.
Operational Excellence & Value Creation
Conduct deep-dive operational assessments to identify areas for improvement. Implement best practices and standardized key performance indicators (KPIs) across sales, marketing, product development, customer success, and finance. Drive initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, optimizing pricing strategies, enhancing gross margins, and managing costs effectively.
Go-to-Market (GTM) Acceleration
Work with portfolio companies to refine and scale their GTM engines. This involves optimizing sales processes, building effective sales teams, developing scalable channel partnerships, and implementing data-driven marketing strategies to increase lead generation and accelerate customer acquisition.
Product & Technology Roadmap
Provide expert guidance on product strategy and technology development. Ensure product roadmaps are aligned with market needs and that the underlying technology architecture is scalable, secure, and compliant with industry regulations. A deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, including HIPAA compliance, is essential.
Talent & Organizational Development
Serve as a mentor and coach to senior executives within the portfolio. Assist in recruiting key leadership talent and help build high-performance, results-oriented cultures. Develop frameworks for organizational design, performance management, and leadership development.
M&A and Exit Preparedness
Support portfolio companies in identifying, evaluating, and integrating strategic add-on acquisitions. As companies mature, you will play a key role in preparing them for a successful exit, whether through a strategic sale or an IPO, by ensuring all operational, financial, and strategic elements are optimized for maximum value.
