Strategic and Technical Leadership
Define, articulate, and execute the long-term technical vision and R&D roadmap for all cloud services. Collaborate with executive leadership and product management to ensure technology strategy aligns with and drives business goals.
Team Development and Mentorship
Lead, manage, and scale a high-performing, multi-disciplinary R&D team. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative culture that attracts and retains top-tier engineering talent. Provide career development, coaching, and performance management for your direct reports and their teams.
Architectural Excellence
Oversee the design and implementation of a scalable, secure, and highly available cloud platform. Champion best practices for microservices architecture, API design, and data governance. Make critical decisions on technology stacks, frameworks, and infrastructure.
Innovation and Research
Stay at the forefront of emerging trends in cloud computing, distributed systems, artificial intelligence, and big data. Drive research initiatives, proofs-of-concept, and technological experiments to fuel continuous innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
Execution and Delivery

Requirements for the Director of R&D, Cloud Services with a Digital Platform – San Francisco, CA
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with a focus on building large-scale distributed systems and cloud-based applications.
- 5+ years of direct people management experience in a senior leadership capacity (Director, Senior Manager, or equivalent), including experience managing other managers.
- Demonstrable experience architecting, building, and operating mission-critical services on a major public cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Proven expertise in modern software development practices, including Agile methodologies, CI/CD, DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
- Deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Serverless, and service mesh.
- Extensive experience with microservices architecture, including patterns for service discovery, fault tolerance, and data consistency.
- Strong background in data engineering, including experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Flink) and large-scale data warehousing solutions.
- Familiarity with applying Machine Learning and AI models to solve real-world business problems within a digital platform context.
- Exceptional strategic thinking abilities, with a proven track record of translating business needs into a clear and executable technology roadmap.
