The VP of Supply Chain IT Systems will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the entire technology ecosystem that powers our client’s distribution, logistics, and fulfillment operations. This includes Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Order Management Systems (OMS), inventory planning, and last-mile delivery technologies. You will be the chief architect of a future-state technology roadmap, driving innovation through automation, data analytics, and emerging technologies. Strategic Vision & Technology Roadmap

  • Develop and champion a comprehensive, multi-year strategic technology roadmap for the supply chain, ensuring tight alignment with overall business objectives and growth strategies.
  • Act as a thought leader, staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies (AI/ML, IoT, robotics, blockchain), and best practices to identify opportunities for innovation and competitive differentiation.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the existing technology landscape, identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for modernization, consolidation, and improvement.
  • Partner with C-level executives and senior business leaders in Supply Chain, Operations, and Finance to define technology investment priorities and build compelling business cases for new initiatives.
  • Translate strategic goals into actionable execution plans with clear timelines, resource allocation, and measurable success metrics (KPIs).

Systems Management, Implementation, & Operations

  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of all supply chain applications, including selection, implementation, integration, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Ensure the stability, scalability, security, and 24/7 availability of all mission-critical supply chain systems across a network of distribution centers and fulfillment hubs.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of best-in-class technologies, including leading Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), TMS, and OMS platforms to enhance operational capabilities.
  • Direct large-scale, complex enterprise projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, realizing the intended business value.
  • Establish and enforce robust IT governance, change management processes, and disaster recovery plans to mitigate risk and ensure operational continuity.
  • Drive a data-centric culture, leveraging analytics and business intelligence to provide actionable insights into supply chain performance and drive data-informed decision-making.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of IT directors, managers, engineers, and analysts, fostering an environment of technical excellence, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Structure the organization and talent to effectively support current operations and future strategic initiatives.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and outstanding customer service to internal business partners.
  • Manage resource planning, allocation, and performance management for the entire Supply Chain IT department.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with senior leadership and key stakeholders across the organization to ensure technology solutions meet and exceed business needs.
  • Serve as the primary technology advisor to the supply chain leadership team.
  • Manage strategic relationships with key technology vendors, software providers, and implementation partners.
  • Lead contract negotiations, establish service level agreements (SLAs), and hold vendors accountable for performance and delivery.

Requirements for the VP, Supply Chain IT Systems with a Major Retailer – Indianapolis, IN

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in Information Technology, with a minimum of 8 years in a senior leadership capacity (Director or VP level) overseeing supply chain technology.
  • Extensive experience within a large-scale retail, e-commerce, or consumer packaged goods (CPG) environment with complex distribution networks.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with Tier-1 supply chain systems, including WMS (e.g., Manhattan Associates, Blue Yonder), TMS (e.g., Oracle OTM, SAP TM), and OMS.
  • A demonstrable track record of successfully leading multiple end-to-end implementations of large, enterprise-wide supply chain systems.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute a strategic technology roadmap that delivers tangible business results, such as cost reduction, efficiency gains, and service level improvements.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience developing and managing multi-million dollar capital and operational budgets.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop large, geographically dispersed teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree (MBA or MS in a relevant field) is highly preferred.
  • Experience with implementing and managing warehouse automation and robotics solutions.
  • Familiarity with modern data architecture, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and data analytics tools.
  • Experience in an agile development environment.
  • Strong change management skills and experience leading an organization through significant technological transformation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and engage with executive leadership.
