Key Responsibilities of VP, FP&A with a Public Retailer – Bentonville, AR

The Vice President of FP&A will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, acting as the financial conscience of the organization and a key driver of its strategic agenda. Your duties will include:

Strategic & Long-Range Financial Planning

Lead the development and execution of the company’s long-range financial plan (LRP), ensuring it aligns with strategic objectives and market opportunities. Develop sophisticated financial models to support scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, and the evaluation of various strategic initiatives. Partner with the executive team to set ambitious yet achievable long-term financial targets.

Annual Budgeting and Forecasting

Oversee the entire annual operating budget process, from target setting and guideline communication to departmental collaboration and final executive presentation. Implement and manage a dynamic rolling forecast process to provide the organization with an accurate and timely view of financial performance against targets throughout the year.

Performance Analysis & Management Reporting

Direct the preparation of comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for the executive leadership team and Board of Directors. Provide deep, insightful variance analysis that clearly explains business drivers, identifies underlying trends, and highlights risks and opportunities. Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) that align with strategic priorities and drive accountability across the business.

Executive Business Partnership

Serve as the primary finance partner to divisional presidents and functional leaders. Provide proactive financial counsel and decision support on key business matters, including pricing strategies, marketing campaign ROI, supply chain optimization, labor management, and new product introductions. Embed finance professionals within business units to foster stronger collaboration and financial discipline.

Capital Allocation and Investment Analysis

Establish and lead a rigorous process for evaluating capital expenditure requests and strategic investments. Develop detailed financial models and business cases for major projects, including new store openings, remodels, technology implementations, and potential M&A activities. Ensure all investments meet or exceed required hurdle rates and deliver on their strategic promise.

Team Leadership and Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a large team of FP&A professionals. Foster a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, intellectual curiosity, and high-impact business partnership. Attract, retain, and develop top finance talent, building a strong succession pipeline for the future. Champion professional growth and provide ongoing coaching and feedback to your team.

Process Improvement and Systems Enhancement

Continuously seek opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of FP&A processes. Drive the adoption of new technologies and best practices in financial planning and analysis. Partner with IT to enhance and leverage enterprise performance management (EPM) systems, BI tools, and data analytics capabilities to deliver more powerful insights to the business. Investor Relations & External Communication Support

Collaborate closely with the CFO and the Investor Relations team to prepare materials for quarterly earnings calls, investor conferences, and annual reports. Ensure financial messaging is consistent, accurate, and effectively communicates the company’s performance and strategic direction to the investment community.

We are seeking a distinguished leader with a deep and comprehensive background in corporate finance. The qualifications for this role are stringent and reflect its senior-level nature.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is required. An MBA from a top-tier business school or a relevant professional certification (CPA, CFA) is highly preferred.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with at least 7-10 years in a senior FP&A leadership position (Director, Senior Director, or VP).
