As the VP, Data & Analytics Platform, you will be the chief architect and strategist for the enterprise’s data infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you will have the autonomy and resources to redefine how the organization ingests, manages, governs, and utilizes data. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team of data engineers, architects, and BI specialists to create a unified, secure, and highly scalable platform that empowers stakeholders across the system—from clinicians at the point of care to executives in the boardroom. Key Responsibilities of VP, Data & Analytics Platform with a Major Healthcare System – Nashville, TN

Enterprise Data Strategy & Vision

Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive, multi-year strategy for the enterprise data and analytics platform. Ensure tight alignment with the healthcare system’s strategic objectives, clinical priorities, and digital transformation roadmap. Present strategy, progress, and ROI to the executive leadership team and Board of Directors.

Platform Architecture & Development

Oversee the entire lifecycle of the data platform, from architectural design and technology selection to development, deployment, and ongoing optimization. Lead the transition to a modern, cloud-native data stack (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) incorporating data lakes, data warehousing, and real-time data streaming capabilities.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing organization of data professionals. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, and accountability. Attract, retain, and develop top-tier talent in data engineering, data architecture, and platform operations.

Data Governance & Quality

Establish and enforce a robust, enterprise-wide data governance framework. Implement policies, standards, and processes for data quality, metadata management, master data management (MDM), and data lineage to ensure data is accurate, consistent, and trustworthy.

Security & Compliance

In partnership with the Chief Information Security Officer, ensure the data platform adheres to the highest standards of security and privacy. Guarantee full compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, HITECH, and other relevant state and federal laws.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Partnership

Act as a strategic partner to leaders across clinical, operational, financial, and research domains. Work closely with them to understand their data and analytics needs, delivering platform solutions that provide actionable insights and drive measurable value.

Innovation & Emerging Technologies

Serve as the organization’s thought leader on data platform technologies. Continuously evaluate and pilot emerging tools and methodologies. Drive the exploration and adoption of advanced capabilities, keeping an eye on emerging trends in AI/ML in healthcare to unlock new opportunities for predictive and prescriptive analytics.

Financial & Vendor Management

Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets for the data platform organization. Oversee relationships with key technology vendors and service providers, ensuring optimal performance, value, and alignment with the strategic vision.

Requirements for the VP, Data & Analytics Platform with a Major Healthcare System – Nashville, TN

Executive Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, or technology roles, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership capacity (Director, Senior Director, or VP level) overseeing large, complex data initiatives.

Healthcare Industry Expertise

Deep and demonstrable experience within the healthcare provider, payer, or life sciences sector is mandatory. Must possess a strong understanding of healthcare data types (EHR/EMR, claims, clinical, genomics), interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR), and terminologies (ICD-10, CPT, SNOMED).

Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree (MS or MBA) is strongly preferred.

Technical Acumen

Proven, hands-on experience designing and implementing modern, large-scale data platforms. Expertise in cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP), data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery), data lake architecture, ETL/ELT processes, and data integration tools. Familiarity with big data technologies like Spark and Kafka is essential.

Leadership & Communication Skills

Exceptional leadership presence with a proven ability to build and inspire high-performing teams. Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business terms for C-level executives. Superb communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.

Strategic Vision

Demonstrated ability to develop a long-term vision and strategy, influence key stakeholders, and drive large-scale organizational change. A track record of successfully delivering complex data projects that result in significant business impact.

Governance & Compliance

Strong background in establishing and managing comprehensive data governance programs and ensuring strict adherence to regulatory and compliance mandates, particularly HIPAA.
