As the VP of Clinical Data Management, you will be the ultimate authority for the integrity, quality, and timely delivery of clinical trial data across the organization’s global portfolio. You will provide strategic direction and executive oversight to a large, multi-disciplinary team of data management professionals located across different continents. Key Responsibilities of VP, Clinical Data Management with a CRO – Raleigh, NC

Strategic Vision and Leadership

Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive global strategy for the Clinical Data Management department. Ensure departmental goals and objectives are fully aligned with the company’s long-term corporate vision and clinical development pipeline.

Operational Excellence and Execution

Provide executive oversight for all clinical data management activities from study start-up and database design through to database lock and final archival. Guarantee the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and statistically sound data on time and within budget for all clinical programs.

Global Team Development and Mentorship

Lead, manage, and inspire a large, geographically dispersed team of data management professionals. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture. Oversee talent acquisition, professional development, performance management, and succession planning to build a world-class organization.

Process Optimization and SOP Governance

Drive the continuous improvement of all data management processes, workflows, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ensure that practices are efficient, scalable, and consistently applied across all projects globally.

Technology and Innovation

Champion the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technologies, systems, and tools (e.g., advanced EDC platforms, eSource, AI/ML for data review, data visualization tools) to enhance data quality, streamline operations, and provide a competitive advantage.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance

Ensure that all data management activities are conducted in strict accordance with ICH-GCP, 21 CFR Part 11, and other applicable global regulatory requirements. Act as the primary point of contact for and successfully manage regulatory inspections and client audits related to data management. Uphold the highest standards as defined by industry best practices, such as the Good Clinical Data Management Practices (GCDMP).

Client Relationship and Stakeholder Management

Serve as the senior executive liaison for key client accounts, building and maintaining strong relationships based on trust and exceptional service delivery. Collaborate effectively with internal executive stakeholders to ensure cross-functional alignment and project success.

Financial and Resource Management

Develop and manage the annual departmental budget, ensuring optimal allocation of financial and human resources. Provide strategic input for new business proposals, including resource forecasting, budget development, and participating in high-stakes bid defense meetings.

Requirements for the VP, Clinical Data Management with a CRO – Raleigh, NC

Educational Background

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a life science, health science, computer science, or related discipline is required. A Master’s degree, PhD, or other advanced degree is highly preferred.

Extensive Industry Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience within the clinical data management field in a CRO, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology environment.

Proven Leadership Experience

At least 8-10 years of experience in a senior leadership capacity (e.g., Director, Senior Director, or VP level), with a demonstrated track record of successfully managing large, global teams and complex projects.

Technical and Systems Expertise

Deep, hands-on knowledge of major EDC systems (e.g., Medidata Rave, Oracle InForm, Veeva Vault EDC) and related clinical trial technologies. Comprehensive understanding of CDISC standards, including CDASH, SDTM, and ADaM, is essential.

Regulatory Acumen

Expert-level knowledge of ICH-GCP guidelines and global regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA, etc.). Proven experience in successfully hosting regulatory inspections and major client audits.

Strategic and Business Acumen

Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to translate complex concepts into actionable strategies. Strong business and financial acumen with experience in budget management and business development.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

Superior written and verbal communication skills. The ability to influence and negotiate effectively with all levels of the organization, as well as with external clients and partners. Polished presentation skills are a must.

Location

Ability to work from the Raleigh, NC office in a hybrid or full-time capacity. A comprehensive relocation package is available for the right candidate.
