Key Responsibilities of SVP, Commercial Banking with a National Financial Institution – Dallas, TX

The SVP of Commercial Banking will have a broad range of responsibilities, encompassing strategic leadership, business development, team management, and rigorous risk oversight. Success in this role will be measured by portfolio growth, credit quality, team performance, and overall contribution to the bank’s regional P&L.

Strategic Leadership & Market Growth

Develop and execute a comprehensive market strategy to aggressively expand the bank’s commercial loan and deposit portfolio in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Identify and target key industries and prospective clients, primarily in the middle-market space ($20MM – $500MM in annual revenue). Drive the business development lifecycle from prospecting and initial contact to closing and onboarding.

Team Development & Mentorship

Lead, coach, and inspire a team of Commercial Relationship Managers and Portfolio Managers. Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback and coaching, and foster a collaborative and high-performance culture. Actively participate in the recruitment, hiring, and training of new team members to build a best-in-class commercial banking team.

Portfolio Management & Credit Quality

Provide ultimate oversight for a significant and complex loan portfolio. Ensure the highest standards of credit quality, underwriting, and risk management are maintained. Chair or participate in loan committee meetings, providing expert analysis and decisive recommendations on complex credit structures and large exposures.

C-Suite Relationship Management

Personally manage and cultivate relationships with key clients and influential centers of influence (COIs) throughout the Dallas community. Serve as a trusted advisor to business owners and executives, providing sophisticated financial solutions that encompass credit, treasury management, capital markets, and wealth management services.

Financial Performance & P&L Oversight

Assume full responsibility for the financial performance of the Dallas Commercial Banking unit. Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as loan and deposit growth, net interest margin, fee income, and efficiency ratios, taking corrective action as needed to achieve financial targets.

Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance

We are seeking a highly accomplished and respected banking professional with deep roots in the Dallas market. The qualifications below are essential for success in this demanding and rewarding role.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.

Professional Experience
