Role Overview for Operating Partner, Healthcare IT with a Growth Equity Fund – Raleigh, NC
JRG Partners is proud to partner with a premier, growth-oriented private equity fund specializing in transformative technology and services sectors. We are seeking a highly accomplished and operationally-focused Operating Partner to join their team in Raleigh, NC. This pivotal role is dedicated to the fund’s Healthcare Information Technology (Health IT) vertical, a sector ripe with opportunity for innovation and growth. The ideal candidate will be a former C-level executive (CEO, COO, President) from the Healthcare IT industry who possesses a deep understanding of scaling software and technology-enabled services businesses, combined with a proven track record of driving significant value creation within a private equity context.
As an Operating Partner, you will act as a strategic force multiplier, working hand-in-hand with the investment team and the leadership of portfolio companies. Your mission is to accelerate growth, optimize operations, and maximize returns across the Health IT portfolio. This is not a traditional consulting role; it requires a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach to leadership and problem-solving. You will be instrumental from the late stages of due diligence through the entire lifecycle of an investment, culminating in a successful exit. You will leverage your extensive industry network and deep domain expertise to identify and vet new investment opportunities, provide critical insights during the diligence process, and, most importantly, partner with management teams post-close to execute on ambitious value creation plans. The role offers a unique opportunity to shape the trajectory of multiple innovative companies and influence the future of healthcare technology innovation. Based in the vibrant Research Triangle Park area, you will be at the epicenter of one of the nation’s fastest-growing hubs for technology and life sciences.

The Operating Partner’s responsibilities are broad and dynamic, requiring a blend of strategic vision and tactical execution. You will be a trusted advisor and a catalyst for change, deeply involved in every aspect of the portfolio’s success.
-
Investment Diligence & Strategy
Collaborate closely with the investment team to evaluate potential acquisitions. You will lead operational, technical, and commercial due diligence, assessing the target company’s product-market fit, technology stack, operational scalability, and management team capabilities. Your insights will be critical in shaping the investment thesis, identifying key risks, and developing the initial value creation roadmap.
-
Post-Acquisition Value Creation & Execution
Immediately following an acquisition, you will spearhead the development and implementation of a 100-day plan. This involves working directly with portfolio company leadership to define strategic priorities, establish key performance indicators (KPIs), and launch critical initiatives. You will guide companies in areas such as go-to-market strategy, sales force effectiveness, product management, pricing optimization, and operational efficiency improvements.
-
Executive Mentorship & Leadership Development
Serve as a coach and mentor to portfolio company CEOs and their executive teams. You will provide guidance on strategic challenges, organizational design, talent acquisition, and leadership development. Your experience in scaling businesses will be invaluable in helping these leaders navigate the complexities of rapid growth and market evolution.
-
Board-Level Governance & Reporting
You will typically hold a board seat or a board observer role at multiple portfolio companies. In this capacity, you will help ensure strong corporate governance, hold management accountable for performance against the value creation plan, and facilitate clear and consistent communication between the company and the fund’s investment committee.
-
Operational & Functional Expertise
Provide hands-on support for specific functional areas as needed. This could involve leading a strategic project, filling an interim leadership gap, or driving the integration of a bolt-on acquisition. You will be the go-to resource for best practices in software development lifecycle (SDLC), SaaS metrics, customer success, and building scalable infrastructure.
-
Industry Thematic Sourcing & Thought Leadership
Leverage your deep industry knowledge and network to help the fund develop new investment themes and identify attractive sub-sectors within Healthcare IT. You will act as an ambassador for the fund, participating in industry conferences, publishing thought leadership pieces, and cultivating a network of executives and entrepreneurs who can serve as a source of proprietary deal flow and expert advisors.
-
Exit Strategy & Preparation
As an investment matures, you will work with the deal team and management to prepare the company for a successful exit. This includes positioning the company strategically, optimizing financial performance, strengthening the management team, and preparing the necessary materials for a sale to a strategic acquirer or another financial sponsor.
