Operating Partner FinTech With A Mid Market PE Group San Francisco CA

Role Overview for Operating Partner, FinTech with a Mid-Market PE Group – San Francisco, CA

JRG Partners is exclusively representing a premier, growth-oriented mid-market private equity firm in their search for a highly accomplished Operating Partner specializing in the Financial Technology (FinTech) sector. This is a pivotal, career-defining opportunity for a seasoned executive to transition their deep operational expertise into a high-impact role within the private equity landscape. Based in the vibrant tech hub of San Francisco, CA, the Operating Partner will act as a strategic force multiplier, working hand-in-hand with the firm’s investment team and the leadership of its portfolio companies to drive transformative growth, operational excellence, and substantial value creation.

This is not a traditional advisory role. The Operating Partner will be a hands-on leader, deeply embedded in the lifecycle of investments from sourcing and diligence through to successful exit. You will serve as a trusted mentor to C-suite executives, a strategic architect of growth plans, and a key driver of post-acquisition integration and performance improvement. Your profound understanding of the FinTech ecosystem—from payment processing and alternative lending to RegTech and InsurTech—will be instrumental in identifying unique investment opportunities and unlocking the full potential of acquired assets.

You will leverage your experience in scaling technology companies to implement best practices in product development, go-to-market strategy, talent acquisition, and operational infrastructure across the portfolio. This role offers a unique blend of strategic investment analysis and hands-on operational leadership, providing a platform to shape the future of innovative FinTech companies while participating directly in their success through significant carried interest.

Key Responsibilities of Operating Partner, FinTech with a Mid-Market PE Group – San Francisco, CA

The Operating Partner’s responsibilities are broad and integral to the firm’s success. You will be a critical resource, deploying your expertise across multiple functions and portfolio companies. Key responsibilities include:

Investment Diligence and Strategy

Lead operational, technical, and commercial due diligence, assessing a target company’s market position, product-market fit, technological scalability, and management team strength. Develop and articulate comprehensive value creation theses and detailed 100-day plans.

Portfolio Company Leadership and Mentorship

Act as a primary resource and mentor for portfolio company CEOs and their leadership teams. Provide guidance on strategic planning, organizational design, executive hiring, and fostering a high-performance culture. Go-to-Market and Commercial Acceleration

Work with portfolio companies to refine and execute aggressive go-to-market strategies. This includes optimizing pricing models, sales processes, channel strategies, and marketing efforts to accelerate revenue growth and capture market share. Leverage your industry network to forge strategic partnerships and open doors to new customers.

Operational Excellence and Scalability

Drive initiatives to improve operational efficiency and scalability. This involves implementing best practices in software development lifecycles (SDLC), product management, customer support, and back-office functions. Ensure portfolio companies are investing in innovation, building defensible technology, and aligning their product development with evolving market needs and competitive pressures. Assist portfolio companies in identifying, evaluating, and executing strategic add-on acquisitions. Lead post-merger integration efforts to ensure a smooth transition and the rapid realization of synergies.

Capital Strategy and Exit Planning

Work alongside the investment team and portfolio leadership to prepare companies for future financing rounds or a successful exit (e.g., strategic sale or IPO). This includes strengthening financial reporting, refining the long-term strategic narrative, and building relationships with potential acquirers and investment banks.

Firm and Network Development

Act as a thought leader and ambassador for the private equity firm within the FinTech community. Cultivate a deep network of industry executives, entrepreneurs, and advisors to facilitate deal flow, diligence, and talent acquisition.
