The successful candidate will be a strategic architect and an operational powerhouse, responsible for overseeing all aspects of supply chain management, including strategic sourcing, procurement, demand and supply planning (S&OP), manufacturing, inventory management, logistics, warehousing, and final distribution. Key Responsibilities of Chief Supply Chain Officer with a Global CPG Company – Cincinnati, OH
Global Supply Chain Strategy
Develop and execute a comprehensive, forward-looking global supply chain strategy that aligns with the company’s overall business objectives, growth targets, and market expansion plans. Champion initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service levels.
End-to-End Operational Leadership
Provide executive oversight for all supply chain functions, including demand planning, procurement, materials management, manufacturing operations, inventory control, logistics, transportation, and distribution. Ensure seamless integration and execution across the entire value chain.
Digital Transformation & Innovation
Lead the adoption and implementation of next-generation supply chain technologies, including advanced planning systems, ERP enhancements, automation, IoT, and predictive analytics. Foster a culture of innovation to build a digitally-enabled, data-driven supply chain ecosystem.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global supply chain organization. Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and results-oriented culture. Implement robust talent management and succession planning programs to build leadership depth.
Financial & Performance Management
Assume full P&L responsibility for the global supply chain. Develop and manage annual budgets, capital expenditure plans, and cost-saving initiatives. Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, inventory turns, forecast accuracy, and total cost-to-serve.
Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)
Spearhead the global S&OP process to ensure tight alignment between demand forecasts, inventory levels, and production capacity. Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, and Finance to balance supply and demand, optimize inventory, and maximize customer satisfaction.
Risk Management & Resiliency
Develop and implement a robust supply chain risk management framework. Proactively identify potential disruptions (geopolitical, environmental, economic) and create contingency plans to ensure business continuity and supply chain resilience.
Supplier & Partner Relationship Management
Oversee strategic sourcing and procurement functions. Cultivate and manage strategic relationships with key suppliers, 3PL providers, and other external partners to drive value, innovation, and reliability. Negotiate major contracts to ensure favorable terms and performance.
Sustainability & ESG Initiatives
Champion and integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles throughout the supply chain. Develop and execute strategies to reduce carbon footprint, minimize waste, ensure ethical sourcing, and enhance the company’s reputation as a responsible corporate citizen.
Executive Collaboration
Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing critical insights and strategic guidance on all supply chain-related matters. Collaborate effectively with peers in Commercial, R&D, Finance, and IT to drive enterprise-wide success.
Requirements for the Chief Supply Chain Officer with a Global CPG Company – Cincinnati, OH
Educational Background
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
Executive Experience
A minimum of 20 years of progressive supply chain experience, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role (VP, SVP, or CSCO) overseeing a large, complex, global supply chain.
Industry Expertise
Deep and extensive experience within the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), FMCG, or a related high-volume manufacturing and distribution industry is mandatory.
Global Operations Mastery
Proven track record of successfully managing international supply chain operations, including navigating diverse regulatory environments, international logistics, and global trade compliance.
Technical Acumen
Demonstrated experience leading large-scale technology implementations (e.g., ERP, WMS, TMS, Advanced Planning Systems). Strong understanding of how to leverage data analytics, AI/ML, and automation to drive performance.
Strategic Vision
Ability to think strategically and translate business goals into actionable supply chain initiatives. A history of developing and executing successful long-term supply chain strategies that have delivered a tangible competitive advantage.
Financial Acumen
Strong command of financial principles, with extensive experience managing large budgets, driving cost-optimization programs, and making data-driven investment decisions.
Leadership & Influence
Exceptional leadership skills with the proven ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a large, diverse global team. Superior communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build consensus and drive change across all levels of the organization.
Certifications
Professional certifications such as a Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) from the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) or similar credentials are highly desirable.
