Key Responsibilities of Chief Operating Officer – New York, NY
Strategic Leadership & Execution
Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to set and drive the organizational vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs. Translate strategic plans into actionable goals for performance and growth, ensuring alignment across all departments.
Operational Excellence & Scalability
Oversee all daily operations of the company, including manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, and customer support. Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality. Design and implement business strategies, plans, and procedures to scale operations effectively for future growth.
Financial Management & P&L Oversight
Take full ownership of the operational budget. Work closely with the CFO to develop financial plans, manage capital allocation, and ensure the company achieves its revenue and profitability targets. Drive data-informed decision-making through rigorous analysis of operational and financial metrics.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
Champion a culture of quality and compliance throughout the organization. Ensure all manufacturing processes, products, and operations adhere to the highest standards and comply with all relevant domestic and international regulations, including FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and other pertinent medical device standards. Oversee the Quality Management System (QMS) to guarantee product safety and efficacy.
Supply Chain & Manufacturing Management
Develop and manage a resilient and efficient global supply chain. Oversee manufacturing operations to ensure on-time production of high-quality products while managing costs. Lead strategic sourcing, vendor management, and inventory control to mitigate risks and optimize performance.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-caliber operational team. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation. Set clear goals and performance expectations, and provide regular feedback and professional development opportunities to cultivate talent from within.
Technology & Infrastructure
Evaluate and implement new technologies and systems to improve operational efficiency and support growth. Oversee the management of IT infrastructure, ERP systems, and other business-critical platforms to ensure they meet the company’s evolving needs.
Stakeholder Management
Represent the company with key stakeholders, including clients, vendors, partners, and regulatory bodies. Build and maintain trusted relationships to support the company’s strategic objectives.
Requirements for the Chief Operating Officer – New York, NY
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience, with at least 5-7 years in a senior operational role (e.g., COO, VP of Operations, General Manager) within the medical device, life sciences, or a related regulated manufacturing industry.
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
Industry Expertise
Deep and demonstrable knowledge of the medical device industry, including product development lifecycle, manufacturing (from NPI to mass production), quality systems (QMS), and regulatory affairs (FDA Class II/III experience is a significant asset).
Proven Track Record
A documented history of successfully scaling operations, driving significant process improvements, and managing P&L in a high-growth environment. Experience with M&A integration is a plus.
Financial Acumen
Strong financial and analytical skills, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and managing operational metrics to drive business performance.
