Key Responsibilities of Chief Medical Officer – Cambridge, MA

Clinical Strategy & Development

Design, lead, and execute the company’s comprehensive clinical development strategy for all products. Oversee the entire lifecycle of clinical trials, from protocol design and site selection to data analysis, interpretation, and publication.

Medical Affairs Leadership

Build and lead a global Medical Affairs function to support product commercialization. Develop and manage relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), medical associations, and patient advocacy groups.

Regulatory Affairs Oversight

Provide senior medical leadership and strategic input for all regulatory submissions to global health authorities, including the FDA, EMA, and others. Ensure all clinical activities are compliant with GCP, regulatory requirements, and company SOPs. Possess a deep understanding of FDA regulatory pathways for medical devices.

Safety & Pharmacovigilance

Establish and oversee robust safety monitoring and risk management processes for all products in development and on the market. Serve as the final authority on all clinical safety decisions.

Scientific & Medical Communication

Act as the primary medical spokesperson for the company. Oversee the development of publications, abstracts, and presentations for scientific congresses. Ensure the dissemination of accurate and balanced medical information to both internal and external stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Serve as a key member of the executive team, providing medical and clinical expertise to inform corporate strategy, R&D priorities, business development, and commercial activities. Collaborate closely with engineering, marketing, and sales teams to ensure successful product launches and lifecycle management.

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of professionals in clinical development, clinical operations, and medical affairs. Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and scientific integrity.

Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR)

Guide the strategy for generating evidence to demonstrate the clinical and economic value of the company’s products to payers, providers, and health systems.

Requirements for the Chief Medical Officer – Cambridge, MA

Medical Degree

An M.D. or D.O. is required. Board certification in a relevant specialty is highly preferred. An advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPH, PhD) is a plus.

Industry Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in clinical development and medical affairs, with at least 10 years in the medical device industry.

Executive Leadership

Proven experience in a senior leadership role (e.g., VP, SVP, or CMO) with a track record of building and leading successful clinical and medical teams.

Clinical Trial Expertise

Extensive, hands-on experience designing and executing all phases of clinical trials for medical devices, including pre-market (IDE) and post-market studies.
