Key Responsibilities of Chief Digital Officer – Raleigh, NC

The Chief Digital Officer will have a broad and impactful mandate. Your primary responsibilities will encompass strategy, innovation, execution, and leadership across all digital facets of the organization. Success in this role will be measured by your ability to integrate digital capabilities into the core of the business, creating new value streams and a sustainable competitive advantage.

Develop and Execute Enterprise-Wide Digital Strategy

You will architect, articulate, and champion a cohesive digital vision and roadmap that aligns with the company’s long-term strategic objectives. This involves collaborating with the CEO, board, and executive leadership team to ensure digital initiatives support commercial goals, operational efficiency, and product innovation.

Champion Digital Innovation and Emerging Technologies

Act as the organization’s primary authority on digital trends. You will constantly scan the horizon for emerging technologies like AI/ML, IoT, blockchain, and digital therapeutics, evaluating their potential to disrupt the market and creating business cases for investment and implementation in product development and operations.

Lead Digital Product Management and Development

Oversee the entire lifecycle of digital health products, including connected devices, Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), and patient engagement platforms. You will lead cross-functional teams of product managers, engineers, and UX/UI designers to deliver user-centric solutions that meet rigorous clinical and regulatory standards.

Transform the Digital Customer Experience (CX)

Reimagine and orchestrate a seamless, omnichannel journey for all stakeholders, including physicians, hospital administrators, and patients. You will leverage data and technology to create personalized, high-touch digital interactions that enhance product adoption, improve patient support, and build lasting brand loyalty.

Harness Data as a Strategic Asset

Establish a robust data governance framework and build a world-class data analytics and business intelligence function. You will champion the use of predictive analytics and machine learning to unlock actionable insights from clinical, commercial, and operational data, driving informed decision-making across the enterprise.

Drive Digital Marketing and eCommerce Excellence

Modernize the company’s go-to-market strategy by leading the digital marketing, social media, and eCommerce functions. You will be responsible for enhancing the company’s digital presence, generating qualified leads, and exploring new direct-to-consumer or direct-to-provider commercial channels.

Foster a Digital-First Culture

Lead a significant change management effort to embed digital literacy and a data-driven mindset throughout the organization. This includes developing talent, upskilling existing teams, and breaking down silos to foster collaboration and agility in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Ensure Digital Compliance and Cybersecurity

Navigate the complex regulatory landscape of the healthcare industry. You will be responsible for ensuring all digital products and platforms are compliant with FDA regulations, HIPAA, GDPR, and other relevant global standards. You will also oversee a robust cybersecurity strategy to protect sensitive patient data and intellectual property.

Requirements for the Chief Digital Officer – Raleigh, NC

We are seeking a seasoned and inspirational leader with a proven history of driving successful digital transformation within a complex, regulated industry. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of strategic vision, technical depth, commercial acumen, and exceptional leadership skills.

Executive Leadership Experience

A minimum of 15 years of professional experience, with at least 5-7 years in a senior-level digital leadership role (e.g., Chief Digital Officer, CTO, VP of Digital Transformation) with significant P&L and budgetary responsibility.

Mandatory Industry Expertise

Deep, demonstrable experience within the medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or a closely related regulated healthcare sector is essential. You must understand the unique commercial, clinical, and regulatory challenges of this environment.

Proven Track Record of Digital Transformation

Demonstrable success in conceiving and leading large-scale digital transformation in the medical device sector or a similar industry. You should be able to provide specific examples of how your initiatives drove revenue growth, improved operational efficiency, or enhanced customer engagement.

Advanced Educational Background

A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Information Technology, or a related field is strongly preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline is required.

Strong Technical and Data Acumen

While this is a strategic role, you must possess a strong understanding of modern technology stacks, including cloud computing (AWS, Azure), data architecture, AI/ML applications, and enterprise-level software systems.

Deep Regulatory Knowledge

In-depth familiarity with the regulatory frameworks governing digital health, including FDA guidelines for SaMD, 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, and GDPR.
