Key Responsibilities of VP, Logistics & Warehouse Operations with an E-commerce Retailer – Dallas, TX
The VP of Logistics & Warehouse Operations will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, encompassing strategic leadership, operational excellence, and team development.
Strategic Leadership & Network Design
Develop and execute a comprehensive, long-term strategy for the company’s logistics and fulfillment network. This includes capacity planning, network optimization, site selection for new distribution centers, and defining the capital investment roadmap to support aggressive growth targets. You will constantly evaluate the network to ensure it is agile, scalable, and cost-effective.
Warehouse & Fulfillment Operations
Direct and oversee all aspects of a multi-site warehouse and distribution center network. This includes managing inbound receiving, put-away, inventory control, picking, packing, shipping, and returns processing (reverse logistics). You will be responsible for establishing and exceeding key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order accuracy, on-time shipping, cost-per-unit, and inventory accuracy.
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
Champion a culture of continuous improvement by implementing Lean methodologies, Six Sigma principles, and other best practices. Identify and eliminate waste, streamline workflows, and enhance productivity across all operational facets. Drive initiatives that improve quality, reduce lead times, and lower operational costs while maintaining a high level of service.
Logistics & Transportation Management
Oversee the entire transportation function, including carrier selection, contract negotiation, and performance management for all modes (parcel, LTL, FTL, ocean, air). Develop and manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight forwarders, and last-mile delivery partners to ensure reliable, timely, and cost-effective delivery of products to customers.
Inventory Management & Control
In close collaboration with the Planning and Merchandising teams, develop and implement robust inventory control systems and procedures. Ensure high levels of inventory accuracy through cycle counting programs and physical inventories. Optimize inventory placement across the network to minimize shipping costs and delivery times.
Technology & Automation Integration
Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technologies to enhance warehouse and logistics operations. This includes Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), order management systems, and automation solutions such as robotics, conveyors, and automated sortation systems. Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
Team Leadership & Development
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of logistics and operations professionals. Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment. Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and develop talent to ensure a strong leadership pipeline within the organization. Oversee training programs to ensure all team members are proficient and adhere to safety and operational standards.
Budgeting, Financial & Performance Analysis
Develop and manage the annual operating budget for the logistics and fulfillment division. Conduct detailed financial analysis to monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure financial goals are met. Utilize data and analytics to track performance against KPIs, generate actionable insights, and present regular business reviews to the executive team. You will be expected to leverage data to justify investments and strategic decisions.
Safety, Security & Compliance
Establish and enforce a comprehensive safety program across all facilities, ensuring full compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements. Develop and maintain security protocols to protect company assets, including inventory and equipment. Ensure compliance with all domestic and international shipping regulations.
Requirements for the VP, Logistics & Warehouse Operations with an E-commerce Retailer – Dallas, TX
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned supply chain executive with a proven track record of success in a fast-paced, high-volume e-commerce or direct-to-consumer (DTC) environment.
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
Professional Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in supply chain, logistics, and distribution operations. At least 7 years of experience in a senior leadership role (Director or VP level) with P&L responsibility is essential.
E-commerce Expertise
Demonstrable experience managing fulfillment operations for a high-volume e-commerce or DTC business is a must. Deep understanding of the unique challenges and complexities of single-order, small-parcel shipping environments.
Multi-Site Leadership
Proven experience managing a distributed network of multiple warehouses or fulfillment centers across different geographic locations.
Technical Acumen
Extensive experience with modern Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Experience leading the implementation of new systems or automation is a significant plus.
Analytical & Financial Skills
Strong financial acumen with experience developing and managing large, complex budgets. Highly proficient in data analysis, performance metrics, and using data to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
Leadership & Communication Skills
Exceptional leadership abilities with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, from warehouse associates to the C-suite.
Certifications
Certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) from APICS/ASCM or Lean/Six Sigma Green or Black Belt are highly desirable.

Must be a strategic thinker who can see the big picture and translate business strategy into operational reality, while also being comfortable diving into the details when necessary.
