As the Head of Strategic Sourcing, you will assume full ownership of the company’s multi-hundred-million-dollar indirect spend portfolio. This encompasses a diverse and complex range of categories, including but not limited to Information Technology (hardware, software, SaaS, cloud services, telecom), Marketing (digital media, creative agencies, events), Professional Services (consulting, legal, audit), Corporate Services (travel, facilities management), and Human Resources (benefits, recruitment services). You will be challenged to look beyond traditional cost-cutting and develop sophisticated category strategies that optimize total cost of ownership (TCO), mitigate supply chain risks, foster supplier-led innovation, and ensure alignment with overarching corporate objectives. You will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and serve as a key member of the finance leadership team, providing critical insights and guidance to executive leadership on market trends, sourcing opportunities, and risk management. Strategic Vision & Leadership
Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive multi-year strategic sourcing roadmap for all indirect spend. Champion a vision for a modern, technology-enabled procurement function. Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of sourcing managers and category specialists, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and strategic thinking.
Advanced Category Management
Oversee the development and implementation of sophisticated, data-driven strategies for all indirect categories. Conduct in-depth market analysis, spend analytics, and industry benchmarking to identify opportunities for value creation. Ensure strategies address not only cost but also quality, service levels, risk, and innovation.
Sourcing Execution & Negotiation
Lead the end-to-end strategic sourcing process for the most complex and high-value initiatives. This includes developing rigorous RFPs, creating complex total cost of ownership (TCO) models, and leading multi-faceted negotiations. Master the art of negotiating not just price, but also critical terms and conditions, service level agreements (SLAs), performance metrics, and risk mitigation clauses in master agreements and statements of work (SOWs).
Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
Design and implement a robust SRM program to maximize value from strategic supplier partnerships. Segment the supplier base to focus efforts, establish governance models, and conduct regular executive-level business reviews. Collaborate with key suppliers to drive innovation, improve performance, and manage supply chain risk.
Stakeholder Engagement & Business Partnership
Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with C-level executives and key business leaders across IT, Marketing, HR, Legal, and other departments. Act as a trusted advisor, proactively engaging with stakeholders to understand their business needs and aligning sourcing strategies to support their goals. Effectively communicate the value proposition of strategic sourcing throughout the organization.
Financial Acumen & Performance Management
Establish, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) that demonstrate the value delivered by the sourcing team, including cost savings, cost avoidance, working capital improvement, and supplier performance. Develop and manage the department’s budget and provide accurate forecasting for savings and project pipelines.
Process Optimization & Technology Enablement
Drive continuous improvement of all procurement processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Champion the adoption and optimization of procurement technologies, such as e-sourcing, contract lifecycle management (CLM), and spend analytics platforms. Ensure the team is leveraging industry-leading strategic sourcing best practices to optimize all workflows and decision-making.
Requirements for the Head of Strategic Sourcing, Indirect Spend with a Technology Firm – Dallas, TX
Educational Background
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
Professional Experience
A minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, with at least 7 years in a formal leadership capacity managing a team of procurement professionals.
Spend Management Expertise
Demonstrable experience managing a significant annual indirect spend portfolio (e.g., $500M+) across a wide range of categories, particularly IT, Marketing, and Professional Services.
Industry Experience
Experience within the technology, software, or a similarly fast-paced and dynamic industry is highly desirable.
Proven Track Record
A quantifiable track record of delivering substantial, multi-million dollar cost savings and other value-added benefits through strategic sourcing initiatives. Experience building a sourcing function or leading a major procurement transformation is a significant asset.
Negotiation & Contractual Skills
World-class negotiation skills with the ability to lead complex, high-stakes negotiations and draft and interpret complex contractual agreements. Deep understanding of legal terms and risk mitigation strategies.
Analytical & Quantitative Skills
Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to perform complex data analysis (spend analysis, TCO modeling, should-cost analysis) to drive insights and inform strategy.
Leadership & Communication
Outstanding leadership and team-building skills. The ability to present complex business cases and strategies to an executive audience, influence stakeholders with competing priorities, and articulate value beyond simple cost reduction.
Technical Proficiency
Proficiency with source-to-pay (S2P) platforms such as Coupa, Ariba, or Oracle, as well as advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Certifications
Professional certifications such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) are a strong plus.
