Key Responsibilities of VP, Product Management, Data/Analytics with a Global Insurer – Hartford, CT
Strategic Vision & Roadmap Development
Define, articulate, and evangelize a compelling product vision and multi-year strategy for the enterprise data and analytics portfolio. Develop and maintain a prioritized product roadmap that aligns with overarching business objectives and delivers measurable value.
Product Lifecycle Management
Lead the entire product lifecycle for all data and analytics products, including data platforms, business intelligence tools, machine learning models, and data services. This includes market research, ideation, user discovery, requirements definition, prototyping, development, launch, and post-launch iteration.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Influence
Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders (including Underwriting, Claims, Marketing, and Finance) and technical teams (Data Engineering, Data Science, IT). Build strong relationships, understand their unique challenges and opportunities, and translate their needs into actionable product requirements.
Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data product managers and product analysts. Foster a culture of excellence, curiosity, and accountability. Empower your team to own their products and make data-informed decisions.
Market & Technology Intelligence
Stay at the forefront of industry trends, emerging technologies (e.g., Generative AI, MLOps, Data Mesh), and the competitive landscape within the insurance and data analytics sectors. Use this knowledge to identify new opportunities and inform the product roadmap.
Data Governance & Quality Partnership
Collaborate closely with Data Governance, Security, and Compliance teams to ensure all data products adhere to enterprise standards for quality, security, privacy, and regulatory compliance. Champion best practices for data management and stewardship.
Agile Execution & Delivery
Drive the execution of the product roadmap in an agile environment. Work hand-in-hand with engineering leads and scrum masters to ensure sprints are well-planned, backlogs are prioritized, and products are delivered on time and to a high standard of quality.
Performance Measurement & Value Realization
Define, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for the data product portfolio. Clearly articulate the business impact and ROI of data initiatives to executive leadership.
Requirements for the VP, Product Management, Data/Analytics with a Global Insurer – Hartford, CT
Required Qualifications:
Experience
15+ years of overall professional experience with at least 10 years in product management, and a minimum of 7 years specifically focused on data, analytics, AI/ML, or platform products.
Leadership
5+ years of formal leadership experience, with a proven ability to build, scale, and manage high-performing product management teams.
Industry Knowledge
Deep experience in the Insurance or Financial Services industry is strongly required. Understanding of core insurance processes like underwriting, claims, and actuarial science is a significant advantage.
Technical Acumen
Strong understanding of modern data ecosystems, including cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery), data lakes, ETL/ELT processes, BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and the fundamentals of machine learning and data science. You should be comfortable discussing technical trade-offs with architects and engineers.
Strategic Mindset
Demonstrated ability to think strategically, analyze complex business problems, and develop a clear, compelling vision and strategy that drives business growth.
Communication Skills
Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and to influence stakeholders at all levels, including C-suite executives.
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Business, or a related quantitative field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An MBA or other advanced degree is highly desirable.
- Experience managing products built on major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Proven success in driving the transformation towards a data-driven organization.
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, and other modern product development methodologies.
- A history of successfully launching and scaling data products that have delivered significant business value.
