Key Responsibilities of Director of Operations (TextilesMfg)

Strategic Operational Leadership

Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive operational strategies that align with the company’s overall business objectives, growth targets, and market demands. Translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Production Management & Efficiency

Direct and optimize all aspects of textile manufacturing operations, including spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing, and cut-and-sew processes. Implement Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to minimize waste, reduce lead times, and enhance production efficiency and throughput.

Supply Chain & Logistics Optimization

Manage and streamline the entire supply chain, from raw material sourcing and inventory management to distribution and logistics. Negotiate with suppliers, optimize material flow, and ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods while maintaining high quality standards.

Quality Assurance & Control

Establish and enforce rigorous quality control standards and procedures throughout the manufacturing process. Lead initiatives to reduce defects, improve product consistency, and ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards and customer specifications.

Budget & Financial Management

Develop and manage operational budgets, control costs, and identify opportunities for expense reduction without compromising quality or safety. Analyze financial performance and implement corrective actions to achieve financial targets.

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, train, mentor, and lead a diverse team of production managers, supervisors, and operational staff. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, empowerment, and high performance. Conduct regular performance reviews and facilitate professional development.

Technology & Process Innovation

Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies, automation solutions, and manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, product quality, and operational agility. Drive digital transformation initiatives within the manufacturing environment.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance

Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations. Develop and implement robust safety protocols and training programs to create a safe working environment for all employees.

Maintenance & Asset Management

Oversee the maintenance and reliability of all manufacturing equipment and infrastructure. Implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize asset lifespan and efficiency.

Cross-functional Collaboration

Collaborate effectively with other departments, including R&D, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Human Resources, to ensure seamless operations, product development, and customer satisfaction.

Data Analysis & Reporting

Utilize data analytics to monitor operational performance, identify trends, predict potential issues, and make data-driven decisions. Prepare comprehensive reports for senior leadership on key operational metrics.

Sustainability Initiatives

Champion sustainable manufacturing practices, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and responsible resource management, aligning with corporate social responsibility goals.

Requirements for the Director of Operations (TextilesMfg)

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Textile, Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical), Business Administration, Operations Management, or a closely related field is required. An MBA or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is highly preferred.

Experience

A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in operations management within the textile manufacturing industry, with at least 5-7 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Plant Manager, Director of Operations, VP of Manufacturing).

Industry Knowledge

Deep understanding of textile manufacturing processes, materials, machinery, and technologies (e.g., spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing, nonwovens, technical textiles).

Leadership & Management

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop large, diverse teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

Operational Excellence

Demonstrated success in implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM), or other continuous improvement methodologies. Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) is a significant advantage.

Strategic & Analytical Thinking

Strong strategic planning capabilities with the ability to analyze complex operational data, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.

Financial Acumen

Proficient in budget management, cost control, financial forecasting, and understanding the financial impact of operational decisions.

Technology Proficiency

Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and other relevant production planning software. Familiarity with automation and industry 4.0 concepts is a plus.

Problem-Solving

Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing operational challenges.

Compliance & Safety

Thorough knowledge of manufacturing safety regulations (OSHA) and environmental compliance standards.
