Key Responsibilities of VP, Supply Chain Operations with an Industrial Equipment Co. – Milwaukee, WI

As the Vice President of Supply Chain Operations, you will be tasked with a wide range of strategic and tactical responsibilities. Your leadership will be critical in optimizing every facet of the supply chain to support the company’s aggressive growth objectives. Key duties include:

Strategic Vision and Leadership

Develop, articulate, and implement a comprehensive global supply chain strategy that aligns with the company’s long-term business objectives. Champion this vision across the organization, securing buy-in from key stakeholders and the executive team.

Global Sourcing and Procurement Excellence

Lead the global strategic sourcing and procurement functions to build a resilient and cost-effective supply base. Oversee complex contract negotiations, establish robust supplier relationship management (SRM) programs, mitigate single-source risks, and drive continuous cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality or delivery timelines.

End-to-End Logistics and Distribution Management

Architect and manage a world-class global logistics and distribution network. This includes overseeing freight forwarding, customs compliance, third-party logistics (3PL) provider selection and management, and optimizing warehousing and transportation networks for maximum efficiency and reliability.

Advanced Inventory and Demand Planning (SIOP)

Implement and mature a sophisticated Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) process. Utilize advanced forecasting models and inventory management strategies (e.g., JIT, VMI) to optimize inventory levels across the global network, maximizing service levels while minimizing working capital.

Team Development and Mentorship

Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing global supply chain organization. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Attract, retain, and develop top talent to build a strong succession pipeline within the function.

Digital Transformation and Technology Integration

Spearhead the adoption and optimization of cutting-edge supply chain technologies, including ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and advanced analytics platforms. Leverage data and technology to enhance visibility, predictability, and decision-making.

Comprehensive Risk Management and Resiliency

Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks within the supply chain, including geopolitical instability, supplier disruptions, trade compliance issues, and natural disasters. Develop and implement robust business continuity and contingency plans to ensure operational resilience.

Financial Acumen and Performance Management

Assume full P&L responsibility for the supply chain organization. Develop and manage departmental budgets, capital expenditure plans, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Drive performance against targets for cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory turns, on-time delivery (OTD), and freight costs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Serve as a key strategic partner to other executive leaders, including Manufacturing, Engineering, Sales, and Finance. Ensure seamless integration and alignment between supply chain activities and broader company initiatives to drive overall business success.

Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility

Champion and integrate sustainability and ethical sourcing practices throughout the supply chain. Ensure all operations adhere to the highest standards of regulatory compliance and corporate social responsibility, enhancing the company’s brand reputation and long-term value.

Requirements for the VP, Supply Chain Operations with an Industrial Equipment Co. – Milwaukee, WI

We are seeking a seasoned executive with a proven track record of success in leading complex supply chain organizations within the manufacturing sector. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of strategic vision, operational expertise, and inspirational leadership.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.

Executive Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership capacity (Director, Senior Director, or VP level) overseeing a large, multi-site team.

Industry Expertise

Direct experience within the industrial equipment, heavy machinery, automotive, aerospace, or a similar complex discrete manufacturing environment is essential.

Technical and Methodological Proficiency

Demonstrated expertise in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is required. Certifications such as CSCP or CPIM from the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) are highly desirable.

Strategic Transformation Skills

Proven ability to successfully design and execute large-scale supply chain transformation initiatives, resulting in measurable improvements in cost, quality, and service.

Global Operations Experience

Extensive experience managing international supply chains, including navigating the complexities of global trade, tariffs, and international logistics.
