The Vice President of National Accounts is a cornerstone of the executive leadership team, entrusted with the complete ownership of the company’s most critical revenue stream: national retail. This role extends far beyond traditional sales management; it is a strategic leadership position that demands a visionary approach to partnership, a deep understanding of the retail ecosystem, and the ability to inspire a high-performing team.

You will be responsible for crafting and implementing the multi-year strategic plan for all national retail accounts, including big-box stores, mass merchandisers, and specialty retailers. Your primary objective is to achieve aggressive sales and profitability targets by fostering deep, C-suite level relationships with key partners, ensuring our client’s brand is optimally positioned for maximum growth and market share. Strategic Sales Leadership & Vision

Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive, forward-thinking sales strategy for the national retail channel. This includes setting ambitious annual and quarterly sales objectives, defining key performance indicators (KPIs), and creating detailed account plans that align with the company’s overarching financial goals. You will be expected to stay ahead of evolving retail industry trends to continuously innovate and refine your approach.

Executive Relationship Management

Personally cultivate, manage, and deepen executive-level relationships within key national accounts such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Costco, and others. Act as the primary executive contact, leading top-to-top meetings and orchestrating joint business planning (JBP) sessions that drive strategic alignment and long-term growth.

Team Development & Mentorship

Recruit, train, and lead a world-class team of National Account Managers. Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. Provide coaching and professional development to elevate your team’s skills in negotiation, strategic selling, and data analysis, ensuring they are equipped to exceed their goals.

P&L and Financial Management

Assume full P&L responsibility for the national accounts channel. Meticulously manage budgets, trade spending, and pricing strategies to maximize profitability and ROI. Develop accurate sales forecasts and provide regular, insightful performance reports to the executive team and board of directors.

Complex Negotiations

Lead the charge on all major contract negotiations, including terms, pricing, co-op marketing funds, promotional calendars, and in-store merchandising agreements. Leverage your deep industry knowledge and negotiation prowess to secure favorable terms that benefit both the company and its retail partners.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Serve as a critical link between the sales team and other key departments. Work hand-in-hand with the Marketing team to develop and execute impactful in-store promotions and campaigns. Collaborate closely with Supply Chain and Operations to ensure accurate demand planning and inventory management, preventing stock-outs and maximizing on-shelf availability. Provide market feedback to the Product Development team to influence future innovation.

Data-Driven Decision Making

Champion the use of data and analytics to drive strategy. Utilize POS data, market research, and competitive analysis to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and make informed decisions regarding product assortment, promotions, and resource allocation.

Extensive Experience

A minimum of 15+ years of progressive sales experience within the CPG, consumer electronics, or a related consumer products industry, with at least 8-10 years in a senior leadership capacity managing national accounts.

Proven Track Record

Demonstrable and quantifiable success in developing and managing strategic partnerships with top-tier national retailers. Must provide a clear history of achieving and exceeding multi-million dollar sales quotas and driving significant market share growth.

Key Account Expertise

Deep, existing relationships and a comprehensive understanding of the operational mechanics of major retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Costco is essential.

Leadership Acumen

Proven ability to build, mentor, and motivate a high-performing, geographically dispersed sales team. Experience in setting a clear vision and holding teams accountable to high standards of performance.

Financial & Analytical Skills

Strong financial acumen with direct experience managing a channel P&L, trade spend, and promotional budgets. Expertise in sales forecasting, data analysis, and using insights to drive strategic decisions.

Strategic Mindset

The ability to think beyond quarterly targets and develop long-range plans that create sustainable competitive advantages. Must be a strategic thinker who can connect market trends to business opportunities.

Exceptional Communication Skills

Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the executive presence and polish to confidently present to C-suite executives, both internally and externally.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field is required. An MBA is highly preferred.

Location & Travel

Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Dallas-Fort Worth, TX area. This role requires the ability to travel nationally up to 50% of the time to meet with clients and internal teams.
