You will own the entire planning horizon, from long-range strategic capacity planning to short-term tactical execution. This includes leading the global Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, orchestrating demand and supply planning functions, and optimizing a multi-billion dollar inventory portfolio across a complex network of fulfillment centers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities of VP, Global Supply Chain Planning with an E-commerce Retailer – Seattle, WA

Strategic Leadership & S&OP Execution

  • Spearhead the global Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, facilitating executive-level meetings to forge a consensus plan that balances demand, supply, and financial objectives.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year supply chain planning strategy that aligns with the company’s long-term growth targets and corporate objectives.
  • Own the long-range capacity planning process, providing critical insights into future network, infrastructure, and inventory investment requirements.
  • Act as a key strategic advisor to the executive leadership team, translating complex supply chain data into actionable business intelligence and strategic recommendations.

Demand & Supply Planning Oversight

  • Lead the global demand planning function, ensuring the development and refinement of sophisticated statistical forecasting models, augmented with market intelligence and commercial input.
  • Drive continuous improvement in forecast accuracy (MAPE, WAPE, Bias) through advanced analytics, machine learning applications, and a robust collaborative planning process with Sales and Marketing teams.
  • Oversee the master production scheduling and supply planning teams, ensuring that supply plans are optimized to meet demand while considering capacity constraints, lead times, and total cost.
  • Develop robust contingency and scenario planning models to assess risks and opportunities, enabling the business to respond effectively to supply chain disruptions or unexpected demand shifts.

Inventory Management & Optimization

  • Design and implement a global inventory strategy, including setting clear policies for safety stock, cycle stock, and replenishment across all nodes of the supply chain network.
  • Establish and manage key inventory health metrics, such as Days of Inventory on Hand (DOI), Inventory Turns, and Service Levels (OTIF), driving initiatives to optimize working capital.
  • Lead the strategy for managing excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory, working cross-functionally to develop effective disposition channels and minimize financial impact.
  • Utilize multi-echelon inventory optimization (MEIO) techniques to strategically position inventory and improve overall network efficiency and customer fulfillment speed.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a large, geographically dispersed organization of supply chain planning professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Establish clear performance goals, KPIs, and career development paths for the team, ensuring a strong talent pipeline for future leadership roles.
  • Champion the use of data and analytics within the team, building capabilities in statistical analysis, data visualization, and predictive modeling.
  • Promote a collaborative and proactive culture, ensuring seamless communication and partnership with other key functions including Merchandising, Operations, Finance, and Technology.

Requirements for the VP, Global Supply Chain Planning with an E-commerce Retailer – Seattle, WA

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related analytical field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in supply chain planning, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership capacity overseeing large, complex planning functions (Director, Senior Director, or VP level).
  • Direct experience within the e-commerce, direct-to-consumer (DTC), or fast-moving retail sectors is essential.
  • Proven, hands-on experience leading a global S&OP process and interacting at the C-suite level.
  • Deep expertise in demand planning, statistical forecasting, supply planning, and inventory management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, with a track record of attracting, retaining, and growing top talent.
  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. Must be comfortable with large datasets and complex modeling.
  • Extensive experience with advanced planning systems (APS) such as Kinaxis, o9 Solutions, Blue Yonder, or Oracle, as well as major ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Professional certifications such as APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are highly desirable.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate complex supply chain concepts to a wide range of audiences.
  • Must be willing to be based in the Seattle, WA metropolitan area.
