As the VP of FP&A, you will be the architect of the company’s financial future, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Key Responsibilities of VP, FP&A with a Public Technology Company – Austin, TX

Strategic Financial Leadership

Partner with the CFO and executive team to develop and execute the company’s long-range strategic plan (LRP). Provide financial leadership on key business decisions, including M&A, capital allocation, pricing strategies, and major investments.

Financial Planning & Forecasting

Lead the end-to-end global financial planning processes, including the annual operating plan (AOP), quarterly forecasts, and monthly rolling forecasts. Develop sophisticated and scalable financial models to support these processes and scenario planning.

Performance Management & Analysis

Oversee the preparation of comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for the executive team and Board of Directors. Lead in-depth variance analysis of actual results against budget, forecast, and prior periods, providing actionable insights and recommendations.

Business Partnership

Serve as the primary financial partner to business unit leaders and department heads. Provide them with financial tools, insights, and counsel to help them effectively manage their P&Ls and achieve their operational and strategic goals.

Public Company & Investor Relations Support

Play a critical role in the quarterly earnings cycle, including supporting the preparation of earnings scripts, press releases, and Q&A documents. Develop insightful analyses and materials for investor communications and presentations.

Team Development & Mentorship

Recruit, manage, and develop a high-performing global FP&A team. Foster a collaborative and intellectually curious environment that promotes professional growth and delivers exceptional results.

Process & Systems Improvement

Drive continuous improvement and automation within the FP&A function. Evaluate, implement, and optimize financial planning systems and tools (e.g., Anaplan, Adaptive Insights) to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and analytical capabilities.

Capital & Cash Flow Management

Partner closely with the Treasury and Accounting teams to manage and forecast cash flow, working capital, and the consolidated balance sheet.

Board & Audit Committee Reporting

Prepare and present clear, concise, and insightful financial analyses and presentations for the Board of Directors and its sub-committees.

Requirements for the VP, FP&A with a Public Technology Company – Austin, TX

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is required. An MBA from a top-tier institution and/or a CPA designation is strongly preferred.

Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 7 years in a senior FP&A leadership role (Director level or above).

Industry Expertise

Significant experience within a publicly traded technology, SaaS, or software company is a mandatory requirement. A deep understanding of subscription-based business models and associated metrics (ARR, LTV, CAC, Churn) is essential.

Leadership Skills

Proven ability to build, lead, and mentor a high-performing, geographically distributed finance team. A track record of being a trusted advisor to senior executives.

Technical & Analytical Skills

Expert-level financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills. Strong command of US GAAP and SEC reporting principles.

Communication Skills

Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to distill complex financial concepts into clear, actionable insights for both financial and non-financial audiences. Experience presenting to C-suite executives and a Board of Directors is required.

Systems Proficiency

Hands-on experience with large-scale ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and modern cloud-based FP&A/EPM platforms (e.g., Anaplan, Adaptive Insights, Host Analytics).

Strategic Mindset

Strong business acumen and the ability to think strategically, anticipate future trends, and translate them into financial plans and operational initiatives.

Professional Certifications

Professional certifications such as the Certified Corporate FP&A Professional (FPAC), offered by the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), are highly regarded.
