This is a pivotal leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and serving as a key business partner to the entire senior leadership team. You will be instrumental in shaping the company’s financial future, driving strategic decision-making, and building a world-class FP&A function that scales with the business.

As the VP of FP&A, you will be more than just a numbers expert; you will be a storyteller, a strategist, and a catalyst for growth. This role requires a leader who can operate at both a strategic 30,000-foot level and a detailed, hands-on tactical level.

You will own the company’s financial model, lead all planning and forecasting cycles, and provide critical analysis to support key initiatives, including product investment, market expansion, and potential M&A activities. Key Responsibilities of VP, FP&A with a Growing Tech Company – Raleigh, NC

Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership

Act as a strategic advisor to the CFO and executive leadership team. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support long-range strategic planning, corporate development, and major operational decisions. Build strong, collaborative relationships with department heads (Sales, Marketing, Product, Engineering) to drive accountability and optimize resource allocation.

Financial Planning & Forecasting

Lead and orchestrate the entire financial planning process, including the annual operating plan (AOP), quarterly forecasts, and long-range financial models. Develop sophisticated and dynamic models to support various scenarios and sensitivities.

Performance Analysis & Reporting

Oversee the preparation of comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for the executive team, Board of Directors, and investors. Develop, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and SaaS metrics (ARR, NRR, LTV, CAC, Churn) to provide deep insights into business performance and trends. Conduct in-depth variance analysis of actuals versus budget/forecast and communicate findings clearly.

Team Development & Mentorship

Recruit, lead, and mentor a high-performing FP&A team. Foster a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, intellectual curiosity, and strong business partnership. Provide clear career pathing and development opportunities for team members.

Systems & Process Improvement

Drive the continuous improvement and scaling of FP&A processes and systems. Evaluate and implement new financial planning software and business intelligence tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and analytical capabilities. Ensure the financial infrastructure can support the company’s rapid growth.

Capital Markets & Investor Relations Support

Partner with the CFO on capital raising activities, including debt and equity financing. Assist in the preparation of investor presentations, board materials, and due diligence for potential M&A or strategic investments.

Data-Driven Storytelling

Master the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, concise, and compelling narratives. Present financial results and strategic recommendations to diverse audiences, from engineers to board members, with confidence and clarity.

Requirements for the VP, FP&A with a Growing Tech Company – Raleigh, NC

Experience

A minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 5-7 years in a senior FP&A leadership role (Director or VP level). Significant experience within the B2B SaaS or technology industry is required. Proven success in a high-growth, venture-backed or private equity-owned environment is strongly preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field is required. An MBA from a top-tier institution or a CPA is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

Expert-level proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and valuation. Deep understanding of GAAP accounting principles. Extensive experience with SaaS metrics and cohort analysis. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint are mandatory. Hands-on experience with modern ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle) and enterprise-grade financial planning tools (e.g., Anaplan, Adaptive Planning, Vena) is essential.

Leadership & Communication

Demonstrated experience building, managing, and developing high-performing teams. Exceptional executive presence and outstanding written and verbal communication skills. The ability to influence and build credibility with senior executives, board members, and cross-functional partners is critical.

Strategic Mindset

A highly analytical and strategic thinker with a bias for action. Must be able to balance long-term strategic objectives with short-term tactical execution. Possesses a strong business acumen and the ability to understand and articulate the key drivers of the business.

Certifications

Professional certifications such as the Certified Corporate FP&A Professional (FPAC) are considered a strong asset.
