Key Responsibilities of VP, FP&A with a FinTech Company – New York, NY
As the Vice President of FP&A, you will own the financial planning process and serve as the analytical engine of the company. Your responsibilities will be broad and impactful, including:
Strategic Financial Leadership
Lead the annual budgeting process, long-range strategic planning, and monthly/quarterly rolling forecasts. Develop and refine financial models that support the company’s strategic objectives and long-term vision.
Performance Management & Reporting
Oversee the preparation of comprehensive management reporting packages for the executive team, Board of Directors, and investors. Develop, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to provide actionable insights into business performance.
Business Partnership
Act as a trusted financial advisor to department heads across the organization, including Product, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing. Provide analytical support for new initiatives, product launches, pricing strategies, and marketing campaigns to ensure a strong return on investment.
Advanced Financial Modeling
Build and maintain sophisticated financial models that adhere to industry best practices in financial planning, enabling robust scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, and strategic decision-making. Models will be used for forecasting, valuation, and capital allocation.
Capital Allocation and Investment Analysis
Lead the financial evaluation of strategic investments, including potential M&A opportunities, partnerships, and significant capital expenditures. Develop frameworks to assess ROI and prioritize resource allocation.
Process Optimization and System Implementation
Drive continuous improvement within the finance function by identifying and implementing new processes, systems, and tools. Lead the selection and implementation of modern FP&A software and BI platforms to enhance efficiency and analytical capabilities.
Market Intelligence
Conduct in-depth analysis of market trends, the competitive landscape, and economic factors to identify risks and opportunities. Provide insights that inform corporate strategy and financial outlook.
Team Development
Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing FP&A team. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and professional growth.
Investor Relations Support
Partner with the CFO to prepare materials for fundraising activities, investor presentations, and board meetings. Help craft the company’s financial narrative for external stakeholders.
Requirements for the VP, FP&A with a FinTech Company – New York, NY
We are seeking a candidate with a proven track record of success in high-growth environments. The qualifications and attributes for this role include:
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of 12+ years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, corporate finance, investment banking, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role, with a demonstrated ability to build, manage, and mentor a team.
- Significant experience within the FinTech, SaaS, or a venture-backed, high-growth technology company is essential.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- Expert-level proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and PowerPoint. You must be able to build complex, three-statement financial models from scratch.
- Hands-on experience with modern ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP) and corporate performance management (CPM)/FP&A software (e.g., Anaplan, Adaptive Insights, Planful).
Preferred Qualifications & Attributes:
- An MBA from a top-tier university or professional certifications such as CPA or CFA are highly preferred.
- Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
- Knowledge of SQL and experience working with large datasets is a strong plus.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex financial concepts into clear, concise insights for both financial and non-financial audiences.
- A strong executive presence and the ability to influence and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including the C-suite and Board of Directors.
