Key Responsibilities of VP of Data Center Operations – Phoenix, AZ

The VP of Data Center Operations will undertake a broad range of responsibilities crucial to the success and resilience of our client’s infrastructure. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

Develop and execute a comprehensive long-term strategy for data center operations, aligning with the company’s overall business objectives and growth trajectory. This includes forecasting future needs, evaluating new technologies, and making strategic investments in infrastructure and talent.

Operational Excellence & Uptime

Oversee all aspects of data center operations, ensuring 24/7 availability, optimal performance, and adherence to stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Implement and refine processes for incident management, problem resolution, change control, and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.

Infrastructure Design & Deployment

Lead the planning, design, and deployment of new data center facilities, expansions, and upgrades. This involves collaborating with engineering, network, and security teams to ensure robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions that meet industry best practices and future demands.

Team Leadership & Development

Innovation & Technology Adoption

To excel in this demanding yet rewarding role, candidates should possess a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and strategic vision. Ideal qualifications include:

Extensive Experience

Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in data center operations and infrastructure management, with at least 8-10 years in a senior leadership or executive role (e.g., Director, Senior Director, VP). Experience managing multi-site, large-scale, enterprise-level, or hyperscale data center environments is highly preferred.

Technical Acumen

Deep understanding of data center infrastructure, including power distribution (UPS, generators), cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chillers), network architecture (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, firewalls), server hardware, storage systems, and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V). Familiarity with cloud computing models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and hybrid cloud environments is essential.
