Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the VP of Data & Analytics will be the organization’s senior-most leader dedicated to data strategy, execution, and evangelism. You will be tasked with building and leading a world-class, centralized data organization encompassing data science, machine learning, business intelligence, data engineering, and data governance.

This role requires a rare blend of deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and exceptional leadership skills. You will be responsible for crafting the roadmap that turns vast datasets into actionable intelligence, predictive insights, and innovative products. Strategic Vision & Execution

Develop, articulate, and execute a comprehensive, forward-thinking data and analytics strategy that is deeply aligned with the company’s long-term business objectives. Translate this strategy into a clear, actionable roadmap with defined milestones, KPIs, and resource allocation plans.

Executive Leadership & Team Cultivation

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary organization of data scientists, data engineers, machine learning engineers, and BI analysts. Foster an inclusive, innovative, and collaborative environment that attracts, develops, and retains top-tier global talent.

Champion a Data-Driven Culture

Serve as the primary evangelist for data literacy and data-informed decision-making across the entire company. Partner with leadership to democratize data and embed analytical rigor into all business functions, from product development to marketing and operations. Advanced Analytics & Machine Learning

Spearhead the development and deployment of advanced predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges. This includes areas such as fraud detection, credit risk modeling, customer lifetime value prediction, and personalization engines.

Data Architecture & Governance

In close partnership with the CTO and engineering leaders, oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of a scalable, secure, and modern data architecture. Establish and enforce a robust, enterprise-wide data governance framework to ensure data quality, integrity, privacy, and compliance with regulations.

Business Intelligence & Reporting

Elevate the company’s business intelligence capabilities to provide a “single source of truth.” Deliver accurate, timely, and actionable insights to stakeholders through sophisticated dashboards, self-service analytics tools, and comprehensive reporting.

Cross-Functional Partnership

Act as a strategic partner to the C-suite and leaders across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, and Sales. Proactively identify opportunities where data and analytics can drive innovation, efficiency, and revenue growth.

Innovation & Research

Stay at the forefront of the latest trends, technologies, and methodologies in data science, AI/ML, and FinTech. Evaluate and introduce new tools and techniques to ensure the company remains a leader in the industry.

Financial Management

Develop and manage the annual budget for the Data & Analytics department, ensuring optimal allocation of resources, managing vendor relationships, and delivering a strong return on investment.

Requirements for the VP, Data & Analytics with a Public FinTech – Charlotte, NC

Executive Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in data science, analytics, and data engineering, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership capacity (Director, Sr. Director, or VP level) managing large, multi-faceted data teams.

Educational Background

Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or a related discipline is strongly preferred. A Bachelor’s degree with extensive relevant experience will be considered.

Industry Expertise

Demonstrable experience within the FinTech, banking, payments, or financial services sectors is essential. A deep understanding of financial data, market dynamics, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) is critical for success. Experience in a publicly-traded company is a significant plus.

Technical Acumen

Deep, hands-on expertise with modern data stacks and technologies. This includes proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery), big data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark), and programming languages (Python, R, SQL).

Machine Learning Mastery

Proven track record of successfully building and deploying machine learning models into production environments that have delivered measurable business impact.

Strategic Leadership

Exceptional ability to think strategically and translate complex technical concepts into clear business-oriented language for executive and non-technical audiences. A history of influencing and driving change at the highest levels of an organization.

People Leadership

A passionate and empathetic leader with a proven ability to recruit, inspire, and develop high-performing teams. Experience managing managers and fostering a positive and productive team culture is required.
