Based in the thriving financial hub of Charlotte, NC, this executive will serve as a critical leader within the organization, reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer. Key Responsibilities of VP, Corporate Development, M&A with a Public FinTech – Charlotte, NC

The Vice President of Corporate Development will be responsible for the full lifecycle of M&A and strategic investment activities. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Strategy Formulation & Market Analysis

Collaborate with the executive leadership team to define and refine the company’s inorganic growth strategy. Continuously monitor and analyze the competitive landscape, market trends, and emerging technologies within the FinTech sector to identify potential acquisition targets and strategic investment opportunities.

Deal Sourcing and Pipeline Development

Proactively build and manage a robust pipeline of M&A opportunities. Cultivate a strong network of industry contacts, investment bankers, venture capitalists, and private equity firms to source proprietary and actionable deal flow.

Transaction Evaluation and Due Diligence

Lead the comprehensive evaluation of potential targets. This includes conducting rigorous financial analysis, valuation modeling (DCF, comparable companies, precedent transactions), and strategic fit assessment. You will orchestrate and lead cross-functional due diligence teams, ensuring all aspects of a target’s business—financial, legal, operational, technological, and cultural—are thoroughly vetted.

Financial Modeling and Valuation

Develop and oversee the creation of complex financial models to support valuation, synergy analysis, and deal structuring. Prepare detailed presentations and recommendations for the executive team and the Board of Directors, articulating the strategic rationale and financial implications of proposed transactions. A deep understanding of the modern M&A playbook and its application in a fast-evolving tech landscape is essential.

Negotiation and Execution

Lead the negotiation of key transaction terms, including letters of intent (LOIs) and definitive purchase agreements, in close partnership with legal counsel. Manage all aspects of the transaction process, from initial engagement to closing, ensuring timelines are met and key objectives are achieved.

Integration Planning and Oversight

Work closely with a dedicated integration management office (IMO) and business unit leaders to develop detailed pre-close integration plans. Provide strategic oversight during the post-merger integration phase to ensure the realization of identified synergies, the retention of key talent, and the successful combination of operations and cultures.

Stakeholder Management and Communication

Serve as the primary point of contact for all M&A-related activities. Prepare and deliver compelling presentations to the executive leadership team, the Board of Directors, and other key internal stakeholders. Effectively communicate the strategic vision and progress of corporate development initiatives across the organization.

Team Leadership and Development

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing corporate development team. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the function.

Requirements for the VP, Corporate Development, M&A with a Public FinTech – Charlotte, NC

We are seeking a candidate with exceptional qualifications and a demonstrated history of success in a senior corporate development or investment banking role. The specific requirements for this position are:

Experience

A minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, or venture capital, with a significant focus on the technology and/or financial services sectors. Direct experience within the FinTech industry is strongly preferred.

Transaction Leadership

A proven track record of successfully leading and closing multiple M&A transactions, from sourcing and evaluation through to negotiation, closing, and integration. Experience managing the entire deal lifecycle is mandatory.

Public Company Acumen

Experience working within or closely with public companies is highly desirable. This includes an understanding of the regulatory environment, shareholder communications, and the unique pressures and reporting requirements of a publicly traded entity.

Financial and Analytical Skills

Expert-level proficiency in financial modeling, valuation techniques, and deal structuring. Must possess superior analytical and quantitative skills with an ability to distill complex information into clear, concise insights and recommendations.

Strategic Mindset

The ability to think strategically and holistically, connecting corporate strategy to M&A strategy. Must be able to assess not just the financial viability of a deal, but also its long-term strategic impact on the business.

Leadership and Influence

Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor a team. Must have outstanding executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus among senior executives, board members, and external partners.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field is required. An MBA from a top-tier business school is strongly preferred.
