Strategic Planning & Long-Range Vision
Lead the annual and long-range strategic planning process in partnership with executive leadership and business unit heads. Develop and maintain a comprehensive corporate strategy that aligns with the company’s mission and financial objectives, ensuring it is adaptable to the dynamic tech landscape.
Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
Spearhead the entire M&A lifecycle, from developing the inorganic growth thesis and identifying potential targets to leading due diligence, valuation, negotiation, and post-merger integration planning. Build and maintain a robust pipeline of strategic acquisition and investment opportunities.
Market & Competitive Intelligence
Build and lead a world-class market intelligence function. Continuously monitor and analyze industry trends, competitive landscapes, emerging technologies, and customer behaviors to identify latent opportunities and potential threats. Synthesize this intelligence into actionable insights for the executive team.
Business Portfolio Management
Regularly assess the company’s portfolio of businesses, products, and services. Provide data-driven recommendations on where to invest, divest, or maintain, ensuring optimal allocation of capital and resources to drive maximum shareholder return.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment
Act as a key strategic partner to leaders across all functions (Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance). Drive alignment on strategic priorities and ensure that functional and business unit strategies are in lockstep with the overarching corporate vision. Facilitate critical strategic discussions and debates among the senior leadership team.
Thought Leadership & Communication
Clearly and persuasively communicate the corporate strategy to internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, employees, investors, and partners. Develop compelling narratives and presentations that articulate the company’s vision and path forward.
Strategic Initiatives & Special Projects
Incubate and lead high-priority, cross-functional strategic projects as directed by the CEO and CSO. These could include exploring new market entries, developing new business models, or responding to disruptive industry shifts. A deep understanding of the shifts that will reshape the global economy is crucial for this function.
Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing corporate strategy team. Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, analytical rigor, collaboration, and strategic thinking within the team and the broader organization.
Requirements for the SVP, Corporate Strategy with a Global Tech Firm – Austin, TX
Educational Background
An MBA from a top-tier business school or an equivalent advanced degree in a relevant field is strongly required.
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15-20 years of progressive experience in corporate strategy, corporate development, management consulting, investment banking, or a related field. At least 7-10 years of this experience must be in a senior leadership capacity, managing teams and influencing C-suite executives.
Industry Expertise
Deep experience within the technology sector is mandatory. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in areas such as SaaS, enterprise software, cloud computing, AI/ML, cybersecurity, or digital platforms.
M&A Transaction Experience
