Key Responsibilities of Operations Controller (Manufacturing)

The Operations Controller will undertake a comprehensive range of responsibilities crucial to the financial health and operational efficiency of our client’s manufacturing operations. Cost Accounting & Analysis Leadership

Spearhead all aspects of cost accounting, including standard costing, variance analysis, bill of material (BOM) accuracy, and production order costing. Analyze direct and indirect costs, labor, and overhead to identify cost drivers and opportunities for reduction. Provide detailed explanations for variances between actual and standard costs, recommending corrective actions to management.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Planning

Lead the development of annual operating budgets and periodic financial forecasts for manufacturing operations. Collaborate with production, supply chain, and sales teams to create accurate and actionable financial plans. Monitor budget performance, identify deviations, and provide insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.

Inventory Management & Valuation Oversight

Ensure accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory. Implement and monitor robust inventory control procedures, including cycle counting and physical inventory processes, to minimize discrepancies and optimize working capital. Analyze inventory turns, obsolescence, and write-downs, providing recommendations for improvement.

Capital Expenditure & ROI Analysis

Evaluate capital expenditure requests by conducting comprehensive financial analyses, including return on investment (ROI), payback period, and net present value (NPV) calculations. Monitor the financial performance of approved capital projects against initial projections.

Operational Performance Reporting

Develop and disseminate key performance indicator (KPI) reports related to manufacturing costs, production efficiency, scrap rates, labor utilization, and other operational metrics. Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for operations management.

Process Improvement & Efficiency Initiatives

ERP System Optimization & Data Integrity

Requirements for the Operations Controller (Manufacturing)

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is mandatory. A Master’s degree (MBA) or professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is highly preferred and will distinguish candidates.

Professional Experience
