Role Overview for Operating Partner, Financial Services with a Mid-Market PE Firm – Charlotte, NC
JRG Partners is proud to partner with a premier, growth-oriented mid-market private equity firm in their search for a distinguished Operating Partner specializing in the Financial Services sector. Based in the vibrant financial hub of Charlotte, North Carolina, this is a pivotal leadership role designed for a seasoned executive with a profound track record of driving transformational growth and operational excellence. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic partner to both the investment team and the leadership of portfolio companies, playing a direct, hands-on role in creating substantial enterprise value post-acquisition.
This is not a traditional consulting or advisory role; it is an immersive, results-driven position at the very heart of the value creation process. You will be the catalyst for change, leveraging your deep industry expertise and operational acumen to identify opportunities, solve complex challenges, and guide management teams toward achieving their full potential. The firm has a stellar reputation for its collaborative culture, its commitment to true partnership, and its impressive history of successful investments. As an Operating Partner, you will be instrumental in upholding and advancing this legacy, working across a diverse portfolio of financial services businesses, including but not limited to fintech, specialty finance, insurance services, and asset management. You will be a key member of the firm’s leadership, contributing not only to portfolio company success but also to the firm’s overarching investment strategy, due diligence processes, and industry thought leadership. This role offers a unique opportunity to blend strategic oversight with tactical execution, making a tangible impact on the growth trajectory of multiple companies while benefiting from a significant stake in their success through carried interest.
Key Responsibilities of Operating Partner, Financial Services with a Mid-Market PE Firm – Charlotte, NC
The Operating Partner will be accountable for a wide range of strategic and operational activities, from pre-deal assessment to post-acquisition value creation and successful exit. Key responsibilities include:
Pre-Acquisition Due Diligence
Collaborate closely with the deal team during the late stages of the investment process. Conduct comprehensive operational due diligence on potential targets, assessing the strength of the management team, scalability of operations, technological infrastructure, and competitive positioning. Identify key risks and, most importantly, pinpoint specific levers for post-close value creation.
Value Creation Strategy Development
For newly acquired portfolio companies, lead the development of a comprehensive 100-day plan and a long-term strategic value creation blueprint. This involves working directly with company leadership to define key performance indicators (KPIs), establish strategic priorities, and set ambitious but achievable growth targets.
Hands-On Operational Leadership
Act as a trusted advisor, mentor, and partner to portfolio company CEOs and their executive teams. This is a hands-on role that requires embedding yourself in the business to drive critical initiatives. This may include leading projects related to sales force effectiveness, pricing optimization, digital transformation, new product development, operational efficiency improvements, and technology platform enhancements.
Performance Management and Monitoring
Implement robust performance management frameworks within portfolio companies. Chair or actively participate in board meetings, ensuring a rigorous focus on financial performance, operational metrics, and strategic execution. Provide regular, insightful updates to the PE firm’s investment committee on portfolio company progress and challenges.
Talent Assessment and Development
Play a crucial role in evaluating the senior leadership teams of portfolio companies. Identify talent gaps and lead efforts to recruit, develop, and retain top-tier executives. Provide coaching and mentorship to C-suite leaders to foster a high-performance culture.
Add-On Acquisitions and Integration
Support portfolio companies in identifying, evaluating, and executing strategic add-on acquisitions. Following a transaction, lead the post-merger integration efforts to ensure seamless consolidation and the rapid realization of synergies.
Exit Preparedness
As a portfolio company matures, you will work with the management team and the investment professionals to prepare the business for a successful exit. This includes ensuring the company has a compelling growth story, robust financial controls, a strong management team, and optimized operations to maximize valuation.
Firm and Network Development
Act as an ambassador for the private equity firm within the financial services industry. Leverage your extensive network to source proprietary deal flow, identify potential executive talent, and contribute to the firm’s reputation as a value-added partner.
