Key Responsibilities of Head of Transaction Services with a Consulting Firm – Houston, TX

Strategic Leadership & Practice Development

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business plan and go-to-market strategy for the Houston Transaction Services practice, aligning with the firm’s overall strategic objectives.
  • Assume full P&L responsibility for the practice, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue generation, and profitability management.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track practice performance, utilization, and engagement profitability.
  • Continuously innovate and expand the practice’s service offerings to meet evolving market demands and capitalize on new opportunities in areas like data analytics, ESG due diligence, and technology M&A.
  • Act as a key member of the firm’s leadership team, contributing to firm-wide strategy, thought leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with other service lines such as tax, technology, and management consulting.

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Leverage your existing network and cultivate new relationships with private equity sponsors, investment bankers, attorneys, and corporate development officers to build a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Lead the entire business development lifecycle, from initial prospecting and proposal development to final presentations and engagement closing.
  • Serve as the primary relationship partner for key clients, ensuring the highest levels of satisfaction and identifying opportunities for expanded services.
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, seminars, and networking events to enhance brand visibility and establish the practice as a market leader in Houston.
  • Develop and publish thought leadership content, such as white papers, articles, and webinars, to showcase the firm’s expertise in the M&A space.

Engagement Execution & Quality Assurance

  • Provide senior oversight and strategic direction on all transaction advisory engagements, ensuring the delivery of world-class work products.
  • Lead complex buy-side and sell-side engagements, guiding teams through the intricacies of financial analysis, including quality of earnings, net working capital analysis, debt and debt-like items, and profitability assessments.
  • Review and approve all major client deliverables, including due diligence reports, valuation models, and integration plans, ensuring they are clear, insightful, and actionable.
  • Act as the ultimate technical resource for the team, resolving complex accounting and financial issues and providing expert guidance.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous quality control processes and risk management protocols to protect the firm and its clients.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Recruit, hire, and onboard a team of top-tier transaction advisory professionals, building a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous learning.

Requirements for the Head of Transaction Services with a Consulting Firm – Houston, TX

Education & Professional Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required.
  • An MBA or other relevant Master’s degree is highly preferred.
  • Active professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is strongly required.
  • Additional certifications like CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation) are highly advantageous.

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in transaction advisory services, corporate development, or a related M&A-focused field.
  • Significant experience within a national or international public accounting firm (Big 4 preferred) or a reputable consulting firm is essential.
  • A demonstrable and successful track record of building and leading a practice or a significant team, including P&L management and business development.
  • Extensive hands-on experience leading and executing comprehensive financial due diligence for both strategic and private equity clients.
  • Proven ability to originate new business and maintain a strong network of referral sources and clients within the Houston market or a comparable major metropolitan area.
  • Deep industry expertise in sectors relevant to the Houston economy, such as Energy (Oil & Gas), Industrials, Healthcare, or Technology, is a significant plus.
