Role Overview for Head of M&A with a Public FinTech – Atlanta, GA

The Head of M&A will be a key strategic leader responsible for the entire lifecycle of the company’s acquisition activities, from strategy formulation and target identification to negotiation, execution, and post-merger integration. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, you will be the central figure in identifying, evaluating, negotiating, and integrating strategic acquisitions that align with the company’s long-term vision and accelerate its growth objectives. Key Responsibilities of Head of M&A with a Public FinTech – Atlanta, GA

Strategy Development & Pipeline Management

Develop, refine, and champion the company’s M&A thesis and strategic roadmap in close collaboration with the executive team and board of directors. Proactively source, identify, and screen potential acquisition targets, strategic investments, and joint venture opportunities that align with corporate strategy. Build and maintain a robust, actionable pipeline of proprietary and non-proprietary deal opportunities.

Transaction Execution & Leadership

Lead all aspects of the deal execution process with a hands-on approach. Oversee the creation of detailed and complex financial models, sophisticated valuation analyses (including DCF, LBO, accretion/dilution, comparable company, and precedent transaction analyses), and rigorous synergy assessments to support investment decisions.

Cross-Functional Due Diligence

Quarterback the entire due diligence process, assembling and managing internal teams from Finance, Legal, Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and HR, as well as external advisors (investment banks, law firms, accounting firms). Ensure a thorough and insightful evaluation of all aspects of a target company, identifying both risks and opportunities.

Negotiation & Structuring

Act as the lead negotiator on all key transaction terms and legal documentation. Exhibit masterful negotiation skills to achieve optimal outcomes for the company. Work closely with internal and external legal counsel to draft, review, and finalize complex legal agreements, including letters of intent (LOIs), term sheets, and definitive purchase agreements.

Post-Merger Integration (PMI) Oversight

Collaborate closely with the executive team and a dedicated integration management office (IMO) to develop and execute detailed, time-bound integration plans. Ensure the seamless transition of acquired companies and the successful realization of projected cost and revenue synergies. Track and report on post-acquisition performance against strategic and financial goals.

Board & Executive Communication

Prepare and present clear, concise, and compelling investment theses, business cases, and transaction updates to the executive leadership team and the Board of Directors. Build trust and confidence through insightful analysis and transparent communication, securing buy-in for strategic initiatives.

Market & Industry Analysis

Serve as the company’s foremost expert on the competitive landscape, emerging technologies, and valuation trends within the FinTech ecosystem. Continuously monitor and analyze the latest FinTech M&A trends to identify new opportunities, potential threats, and strategic inflection points. Cultivate a strong network of industry contacts, including investment bankers, venture capitalists, and corporate development professionals at other companies.

Requirements for the Head of M&A with a Public FinTech – Atlanta, GA

Professional Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive and relevant experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, or venture capital. A proven, demonstrable track record of successfully leading and closing multiple complex M&A transactions from initial sourcing to full integration is essential.

Deep experience and a strong network within the Technology, Software (SaaS), or Financial Services (specifically FinTech) sectors is mandatory.
