The EVP, Head of Biometrics & Clinical Data is a paramount leadership position responsible for the strategic direction and operational execution of the entire biometrics and data management function. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, you will serve as a key member of the Research & Development Leadership Team. Your primary objective is to build and cultivate a high-performing, innovative organization that delivers exceptional quality and efficiency in support of the company’s full clinical development portfolio.

This executive will be accountable for ensuring that all clinical programs are supported by robust statistical designs, state-of-the-art data management practices, and flawless analytical execution. You will champion a culture of quality, compliance, and scientific rigor, ensuring that all functional activities adhere to global regulatory standards. Beyond functional leadership, you will be a strategic partner to colleagues in Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and Pharmacovigilance, providing critical statistical insights that shape trial designs, development pathways, and regulatory strategies. Key Responsibilities of EVP, Head of Biometrics & Clinical Data with a Biopharma Firm – Cambridge, MA

Strategic Vision & Leadership

Develop, articulate, and implement a long-range strategic vision for the Biometrics and Clinical Data organization that aligns with the company’s overall R&D and corporate objectives. Drive innovation and continuous improvement across the function.

Functional Accountability

Provide executive oversight for all biostatistics, statistical programming, and clinical data management activities across all phases of clinical development (Phase I-IV). Ensure timely and high-quality deliverables for clinical trial protocols, statistical analysis plans (SAPs), clinical study reports (CSRs), and regulatory submission documents.

Team Development & Mentorship

Recruit, develop, and retain a world-class team of leaders and individual contributors. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture. Provide mentorship and career development opportunities for staff at all levels.

Regulatory Strategy & Interaction

Serve as the lead biometrics representative in key interactions with global health authorities, including the FDA, EMA, and others. Lead the statistical strategy and contributions for major regulatory submissions (e.g., INDs, CTAs, NDAs, BLAs, MAAs) and be accountable for their statistical integrity.

Technical & Scientific Excellence

Ensure the application of sound, innovative, and efficient statistical methodologies in clinical trial design, analysis, and interpretation. Stay abreast of cutting-edge statistical methods, data science techniques, and industry best practices to enhance the company’s capabilities.

Data Integrity & Compliance

Uphold the highest standards of data quality and integrity. Ensure that all functional processes and systems are fully compliant with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ICH guidelines, and other applicable global regulations.

Process & Technology Innovation

Drive the evaluation and implementation of new technologies, systems, and processes to increase efficiency, quality, and insight generation. Champion the adoption of industry data standards, such as CDISC (SDTM, ADaM), across the portfolio.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Act as a key strategic partner to other leaders within R&D and the broader organization. Provide expert statistical consultation to inform clinical development plans, go/no-go decisions, and overall portfolio strategy.

Budget & Resource Management

Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources (both internal and external) to meet portfolio demands. Oversee the selection and management of CROs and other vendors providing biometrics and data management services.

Requirements for the EVP, Head of Biometrics & Clinical Data with a Biopharma Firm – Cambridge, MA

Educational Background

A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative discipline is strongly preferred. An M.S. with extensive, relevant industry experience will be considered.

Executive Experience

A minimum of 15-20 years of progressive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with at least 10 years in significant leadership roles overseeing biostatistics, statistical programming, and/or clinical data management functions.

Regulatory Mastery

Deep, hands-on experience with global regulatory submissions (NDA/BLA/MAA) is essential. Must have a proven track record of successfully representing a company and its statistical strategies before the FDA and other major health authorities.

Leadership Acumen

Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and inspire large, multi-disciplinary teams. A history of attracting and developing top talent and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

Strategic Thinking

Exceptional ability to think strategically and translate broad corporate goals into actionable functional plans. Must be able to anticipate future trends and challenges in the biometrics landscape.

Scientific Expertise

Broad and deep knowledge of advanced statistical principles and their application to all phases of clinical drug development. Experience across multiple therapeutic areas is highly desirable, with a preference for oncology, immunology, neurology, or rare diseases.

Communication Skills

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. The ability to convey complex statistical concepts clearly and persuasively to a variety of audiences, from technical experts to executive leadership and board members.
