Key Responsibilities of Director of Supply Chain (Clinical)
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive clinical supply chain strategy aligned with the organization’s overall mission, clinical objectives, and financial targets. This includes long-range planning, technological road-mapping, and identifying opportunities for competitive advantage.
Operational Excellence & Process Optimization
Oversee all aspects of clinical supply chain operations, including demand planning, procurement, inventory management, warehousing, distribution, and logistics for clinical products and services. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, lean methodologies, and best practices to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve service levels.
Vendor & Supplier Relationship Management
Establish and maintain strong, strategic relationships with key suppliers, manufacturers, and group purchasing organizations (GPOs). Lead contract negotiations, manage vendor performance, and ensure favorable terms, pricing, and service level agreements that support clinical quality and cost-effectiveness.
Inventory Management & Cost Control
Implement advanced inventory management techniques to optimize stock levels, minimize obsolescence, and reduce carrying costs while ensuring uninterrupted availability of critical clinical supplies. Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory turns, stock-outs, and cost savings.
Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of supply chain professionals. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, collaboration, and professional growth. Provide guidance and support to ensure the team meets departmental and organizational objectives.
Compliance & Risk Management

Understanding and applying FDA regulations for medical devices is paramount in this role.
Technology & Innovation
Evaluate, recommend, and implement supply chain technologies, such as ERP systems, inventory management software, predictive analytics, and automation tools, to enhance visibility, efficiency, and decision-making across the clinical supply chain.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with clinical departments, physicians, nursing staff, finance, IT, and other internal stakeholders to understand their needs, integrate supply chain processes, and ensure alignment with clinical protocols and patient care standards.
Value Analysis & Standardization
Lead value analysis committees to evaluate new products, technologies, and services, ensuring they meet clinical efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness criteria. Drive standardization efforts to reduce variation, improve quality, and achieve economies of scale.
Budget Management

Requirements for the Director of Supply Chain (Clinical)
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Logistics, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or MS in Supply Chain Management) is highly preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 5-7 years in a leadership or management role specifically within a clinical, hospital, or healthcare system environment.
Industry Knowledge
Deep understanding of the healthcare industry, including clinical workflows, medical terminology, patient care delivery models, and the unique challenges and opportunities within the clinical supply chain.
Regulatory Expertise
