Key Responsibilities of Director of QA (Aerospace)
Strategic Quality Leadership
Develop, implement, and maintain the overarching quality strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with the company’s business objectives, customer requirements, and industry benchmarks. Provide strategic direction and vision for all quality assurance activities across the organization.
Quality Management System (QMS) Oversight

Regulatory Compliance & Certification

Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of quality engineers, inspectors, and other QA personnel. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional growth within the QA department.
Audit Management
Plan, execute, and manage all internal and external quality audits (e.g., customer, regulatory, certification bodies). Ensure timely and effective closure of all audit findings and non-conformances.
Supplier Quality Management
Establish and manage robust supplier quality programs, including supplier qualification, performance monitoring, audits, and corrective action processes to ensure the quality of supplied materials and components.
Process Improvement & Root Cause Analysis
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and 8D problem-solving. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes for all quality issues.
Product Assurance & Reliability
Oversee quality activities throughout the product lifecycle, from design and development to manufacturing, assembly, testing, and field support. Implement robust inspection and testing plans to ensure product reliability and performance.
Risk Management
Identify, assess, and mitigate quality-related risks across all operations. Implement proactive measures to prevent potential quality failures and ensure product safety.
Customer & Stakeholder Relations

Requirements for the Director of QA (Aerospace)
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or a closely related technical field is required. A Master’s degree or MBA is highly preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance within the aerospace and defense industry, with at least 5-7 years in a senior leadership or directorial role managing significant quality functions.
Technical Expertise

Profound understanding and practical experience with aerospace quality standards, including AS9100 (D revision preferred), ISO 9001, and relevant FAA/EASA regulations (e.g., FAA Part 21, Part 145, TSO/PMA processes).
Demonstrated expertise in Quality Management Systems (QMS) development, implementation, and maintenance.
Strong knowledge of statistical process control (SPC), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), FMEA, PPAP, APQP, and other core quality tools and methodologies.
Experience with various manufacturing processes common in aerospace, such as machining, composites, additive manufacturing, assembly, and special processes.
Familiarity with NDT methods and associated quality requirements.

Certifications
Relevant professional certifications such as ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) are highly desirable.
