Key Responsibilities of Director, M&A Integration with a Public FinTech – Atlanta, GA

The Director of M&A Integration will have a broad and impactful scope of responsibilities, encompassing the entire M&A lifecycle from diligence to value capture.

Pre-Close Diligence & Planning

Collaborate closely with the Corporate Development team during the final stages of due diligence to identify potential integration risks, complexities, and opportunities. Lead the development of the initial integration thesis, outlining the key sources of value and the high-level strategy for capturing them. Develop preliminary integration budgets, resource plans, and synergy models.

Integration Strategy & Playbook Development

Own, refine, and continuously improve the company’s M&A integration playbook. Develop standardized processes, tools, and templates to ensure a consistent, scalable, and efficient approach to every integration. Act as the subject matter expert on integration best practices for the entire organization.

Integration Management Office (IMO) Leadership

Establish and lead a centralized Integration Management Office (IMO) for each transaction. Define the governance structure, meeting cadence, reporting standards, and decision-making frameworks required to drive accountability and progress.

Cross-Functional Team Orchestration

Lead and mobilize dedicated cross-functional integration teams. Define clear charters, roles, and responsibilities for each workstream (e.g., Go-to-Market, Technology/Product, HR, Finance, Legal). Facilitate workstream kick-offs, planning sessions, and regular check-ins to ensure alignment and momentum.

Master Integration Plan Execution

Oversee the creation and execution of a detailed, time-bound master integration plan. Meticulously track progress against all milestones, dependencies, and deadlines. Proactively identify and escalate potential roadblocks, and work collaboratively with functional leaders to develop and implement mitigation strategies.

Synergy & Value Realization

Partner with the Finance and Corporate Development teams to meticulously track both cost and revenue synergy realization against the deal model. Develop robust KPIs and dashboards to provide leadership with clear visibility into integration performance and overall deal success.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

Serve as the primary integration point of contact for the acquired company’s leadership team, fostering a relationship built on trust and transparency. Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan to keep all internal and external stakeholders, including the executive steering committee and board of directors, informed of integration progress, successes, and challenges.

Change Management & Cultural Integration

Champion the change management process, working closely with HR and leadership from both companies to ensure a smooth transition for all employees. Develop and implement strategies to thoughtfully merge cultures, align values, and retain key talent, which is often the most critical aspect of a deal’s success.

Post-Mortem & Continuous Improvement

Conduct thorough post-integration reviews to analyze outcomes, capture key learnings, and identify opportunities for improvement. Feed these insights back into the M&A playbook to enhance the company’s integration capabilities for future acquisitions.

We are seeking a candidate with a specific blend of experience, strategic acumen, and leadership skills to succeed in this demanding role.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 10-12 years of professional experience, with at least 5-7 years dedicated to M&A integration, corporate development, or management consulting with a direct focus on Post-Merger Integration (PMI).

Industry Expertise

Demonstrable experience within the Technology, Software (SaaS), or FinTech sectors is essential. The candidate must understand the unique challenges of integrating product and engineering teams, technology platforms, and go-to-market motions in a tech-driven environment.

Proven Integration Track Record

A verifiable track record of successfully leading multiple (at least 3-5) complex, full-lifecycle M&A integrations, ideally including a mix of smaller ‘tuck-in’ acquisitions and larger, more transformative deals.

Program Management Excellence

Exceptional program management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously. Experience with project management methodologies and tools is required; PMP or similar certification is a significant plus.

Financial & Strategic Acumen

Strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of financial modeling, deal valuation, and synergy analysis. Must be able to translate the strategic rationale of a deal into a tangible, operational integration plan. Must be familiar with proven frameworks for successful post-merger integration to maximize value.

Leadership & Influence

Proven ability to lead and influence in a matrixed environment. Must be adept at building consensus and driving alignment among senior executives and functional leaders who are not direct reports.
