The Chief R&D Officer will assume a wide range of responsibilities, encompassing strategic planning, team leadership, and operational execution. Regulatory and Quality Excellence

Maintain an expert-level understanding of relevant standards, including deep familiarity with FDA regulations (e.g., 21 CFR Part 820), ISO 13485, and other international guidelines. Collaborate seamlessly with the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs teams to ensure successful product submissions and approvals.

Financial and Resource Management

Develop and manage the annual R&D budget, ensuring optimal allocation of capital and human resources to high-priority projects. Implement metrics and KPIs to track R&D performance, productivity, and return on investment. Present regular updates on project status, budget, and key milestones to the executive team and Board of Directors.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

External Relationship Management

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned R&D executive with an extensive and demonstrable track record of success within the medical device sector. We are seeking a leader who combines strategic foresight with a hands-on, execution-focused mindset.

Educational Background

An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant technical field such as Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline is required. An MBA or equivalent business education is highly desirable.

Executive Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the medical device industry, with at least 7-10 years in a senior R&D leadership capacity (e.g., VP of R&D, CTO, Senior Director of Engineering). Proven experience managing large, geographically dispersed teams and significant budgets is essential.

Technical Acumen

Deep and broad technical expertise across multiple facets of medical device development, including mechanical design, electronics, software/firmware (SaMD/SiMD), materials science, and systems integration.

Commercialization Success

A proven track record of successfully leading multiple complex medical device products (preferably Class II or Class III) from initial concept through all phases of development, regulatory clearance/approval (PMA, 510(k)), and global commercialization.

Regulatory Expertise

In-depth knowledge of the global regulatory landscape for medical devices. Must have direct experience navigating FDA and international regulatory submissions and audits.

Leadership Qualities

Exceptional leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, articulate a clear vision, and influence stakeholders at all levels, from the lab bench to the boardroom. Must possess high emotional intelligence and a collaborative leadership style.
