Key Responsibilities of Chief R&D Officer – Chicago, IL
The Chief R&D Officer will assume a wide range of responsibilities, encompassing strategic planning, team leadership, and operational execution. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned R&D executive with an extensive and demonstrable track record of success within the medical device sector. We are seeking a leader who combines strategic foresight with a hands-on, execution-focused mindset.
Educational Background
An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant technical field such as Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline is required. An MBA or equivalent business education is highly desirable.
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the medical device industry, with at least 7-10 years in a senior R&D leadership capacity (e.g., VP of R&D, CTO, Senior Director of Engineering). Proven experience managing large, geographically dispersed teams and significant budgets is essential.
Technical Acumen

A proven track record of successfully leading multiple complex medical device products (preferably Class II or Class III) from initial concept through all phases of development, regulatory clearance/approval (PMA, 510(k)), and global commercialization.
