Key Responsibilities of Chief People Officer – Boston, MA

The Chief People Officer will have a broad and impactful remit, overseeing the entire employee lifecycle and shaping the organizational framework for future success. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing expert counsel and insight on all people-related matters.

  • Develop and implement a sophisticated employer branding strategy to position the company as an employer of choice within the competitive life sciences landscape.
  • Design and oversee a robust talent management framework, including succession planning for critical roles, high-potential employee identification, and career pathing.
  • Evolve the performance management process to foster a culture of continuous feedback, accountability, and professional growth.

Culture, Engagement & Organizational Development

  • Champion and cultivate a dynamic, inclusive, and mission-driven corporate culture that engages and inspires employees at all levels.
  • Develop and lead initiatives to enhance employee engagement, morale, and retention, using surveys and feedback loops to drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of comprehensive leadership and employee development programs that build critical skills and competencies for the future.
  • Lead organizational change management efforts related to growth, restructuring, or M&A integration, ensuring smooth transitions and clear communication.

Total Rewards & HR Operations

  • Design and administer competitive and equitable total rewards programs, including executive compensation, equity plans, sales incentives, and broad-based pay structures.
  • Evaluate and manage the company’s benefits portfolio to ensure it remains competitive, cost-effective, and aligned with employee needs.
  • Oversee HR operations, systems (HRIS), and infrastructure to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as industry-specific requirements.

Requirements for the Chief People Officer – Boston, MA

We are seeking a seasoned and strategic executive with deep expertise in human resources and a passion for the life sciences industry. The successful candidate will possess a unique blend of business acumen, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., VP of HR, Head of People, CPO).
  • Direct experience within the medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or a related life sciences industry is mandatory. Understanding of the unique talent and regulatory landscape is crucial.
  • Proven experience scaling an organization through periods of significant growth, both organically and through acquisition.
  • Demonstrated success as a strategic business partner to a CEO and executive team, with a track record of influencing business outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Strong command of all HR disciplines, including talent acquisition, organizational development, compensation, benefits, employee relations, and HR systems.
  • Experience leading the HR diligence and integration process for mergers and acquisitions is highly desirable.
