Key Responsibilities of Chief Digital Officer with a Public Technology Company – Seattle, WA
Digital Strategy & Visionary Leadership
Develop, articulate, and execute a clear, compelling, and comprehensive enterprise-wide digital transformation strategy that aligns with and accelerates the company’s long-term business objectives. Serve as the primary evangelist for digital innovation across the organization, influencing the Board of Directors, executive peers, and all employee levels.
Executive Collaboration & Influence
Partner closely with the CEO, CTO, CMO, CFO, and other C-suite leaders to ensure the digital strategy is fully integrated into all business functions. Foster a collaborative environment to break down silos and drive cohesive, cross-functional digital initiatives.
Customer Experience (CX) Transformation
Architect and deliver a world-class, seamless, and personalized omnichannel customer experience. Utilize data analytics, user research, and A/B testing to deeply understand customer behaviors and needs, translating insights into actionable improvements across all digital touchpoints, including web, mobile, and social platforms.
Innovation and Emerging Technologies
Act as the organization’s sensor for new and emerging digital technologies. Champion the evaluation and adoption of innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), IoT, and blockchain to create new business models, enhance product offerings, and improve operational efficiency.
Data-Driven Culture & Analytics
Establish and lead a sophisticated data analytics and business intelligence function. Institute a data-first culture where decisions are grounded in robust analytics and predictive modeling. Oversee data governance, data quality, and the ethical use of customer data to unlock new growth opportunities and drive personalization at scale.
Digital Channels & E-commerce P&L Management
Assume full ownership and P&L responsibility for all digital channels, including the company’s e-commerce platform. Develop and execute strategies to drive traffic, conversion, and revenue growth, while continuously optimizing channel performance and ROI.
Operational Excellence
Identify opportunities to leverage digital technology to re-engineer business processes, automate workflows, and enhance internal productivity. Drive initiatives that lead to significant cost savings and operational efficiencies throughout the enterprise.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary digital team encompassing strategy, product management, UX/UI design, data science, and digital marketing. Cultivate a culture of agility, continuous learning, and innovation within the digital organization.
Change Management & Digital Acumen
Lead the organizational change management required to embed a digital-first mindset and skillset across the company. Develop and implement training and development programs to uplift the digital capabilities of the entire workforce.
Digital Governance & Security
Establish a robust governance framework for all digital activities. In partnership with the CISO and General Counsel, ensure all digital platforms and initiatives comply with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and adhere to the highest standards of cybersecurity and data privacy.
Requirements for the Chief Digital Officer with a Public Technology Company – Seattle, WA
Executive Experience
A minimum of 15-20 years of professional experience, with at least 10 years in senior digital leadership roles (e.g., CDO, VP of Digital, Head of E-commerce) within a large, complex, and preferably publicly traded technology or consumer-facing organization.
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Computer Science, or a related field is required. An MBA or other relevant advanced degree is strongly preferred.
Proven Transformation Leadership
Demonstrable track record of successfully conceiving and leading large-scale digital transformation initiatives that resulted in significant business impact, including revenue growth, market share gains, and enhanced customer satisfaction.
Deep Technical Acumen
Comprehensive understanding of the modern digital technology stack, including cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), data analytics and visualization tools, CRM systems, marketing automation, AI/ML applications, and headless e-commerce architectures.
Strong Business & Financial Acumen
Proven experience managing a significant P&L, developing business cases, managing large budgets, and demonstrating the financial ROI of digital investments. Must be able to translate complex technical concepts into business value.

World-class communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. The ability to inspire, influence, and align stakeholders at all levels, from the Board of Directors to individual contributors, is paramount.
