Key Responsibilities of CFO, Portfolio Company with a PE-backed Retail Brand – Los Angeles, CA
The CFO will be responsible for the entirety of the company’s financial operations. This includes direct oversight of accounting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), treasury, tax, and risk management, as well as serving as a key strategic advisor to the business.
Strategic Leadership & Executive Partnership
Act as a key business partner to the CEO, providing financial and strategic advice on all critical business matters. Serve as the primary liaison to the private equity sponsor and the Board of Directors, ensuring transparent and timely communication of financial performance, risks, and opportunities. Lead the financial aspects of M&A activities, including target identification, due diligence, negotiation, and post-merger integration.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
Lead the annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasting, and long-range strategic planning. Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to support decision-making for new initiatives, pricing strategies, and capital investments. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics, delivering insightful analysis and actionable recommendations to drive performance improvements across the organization.
Accounting, Controls & Reporting
Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the financial records. Manage the month-end and year-end close processes to deliver timely and accurate financial statements. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and all relevant federal, state, and local financial regulations. Design, implement, and maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial discipline. Manage the annual external audit and all tax planning and compliance activities.
Treasury & Capital Management
Manage the company’s liquidity, cash flow, and working capital to support operational needs and growth initiatives. Oversee all banking relationships and effectively manage the company’s capital structure, including debt facilities and covenant compliance. Develop and implement risk management policies and oversee the company’s insurance programs.
Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Empower the team to be proactive business partners to their respective departments.
Systems & Process Improvement
Drive the selection and implementation of financial systems (ERP, BI tools, etc.) to enhance efficiency, improve data visibility, and scale with the company’s growth. Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes and workflows to drive operational excellence.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned financial executive with a demonstrated track record of success in dynamic, growth-oriented environments. The specific qualifications we are seeking include:
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is required. An MBA and/or a CPA designation is strongly preferred.
Professional Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a CFO or VP of Finance capacity.
Private Equity Experience
Prior and significant experience as a senior financial leader within a private equity-backed portfolio company is a critical requirement. The candidate must understand the cadence, reporting requirements, and value creation mindset inherent to a PE environment.
Industry Expertise
Deep experience in the retail, consumer packaged goods (CPG), e-commerce, or direct-to-consumer (DTC) sectors is highly desirable. Familiarity with inventory management, supply chain finance, and multi-channel revenue streams is a major asset.
Transactional Experience
Proven experience leading the financial aspects of M&A transactions, including due diligence and successful post-acquisition integration. Experience having successfully navigated a company through a sale or IPO exit is a significant plus.
Technical Skills
Expert-level financial modeling and analytical skills. Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, tax, and regulatory compliance. Strong systems proficiency, including experience with modern ERP platforms and business intelligence tools.
Leadership Qualities
