Key Responsibilities of Chief Marketing Officer with a Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Brand – Denver, CO
Executive Leadership & Strategy
Develop and execute a comprehensive Direct-to-Consumer marketing strategy that aligns with the company’s overall business goals. Serve as a key member of the executive team, providing marketing insights and strategic guidance to drive long-term growth and profitability.
Full-Funnel Marketing Oversight
Own the entire marketing funnel, from top-of-funnel brand awareness campaigns to bottom-of-funnel conversion and retention strategies. Oversee all marketing channels including, but not limited to, paid social (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), SEM/PPC, SEO, content marketing, email/SMS marketing, affiliate programs, influencer marketing, and public relations.
Brand Stewardship & Development
Evolve and elevate the brand’s identity, voice, and messaging to resonate with the target audience and differentiate it from competitors. Ensure brand consistency across all touchpoints and lead creative development for all marketing campaigns and assets.
Performance Marketing & Growth
Drive customer acquisition at scale while maintaining a strong focus on CAC, LTV, and ROI. Implement rigorous testing and optimization methodologies across all performance channels to continuously improve campaign effectiveness and efficiency.
Data, Analytics & Insights
Champion a data-driven marketing culture. Oversee the marketing analytics function, implementing robust tracking, attribution models, and reporting dashboards. Leverage data and customer insights to inform strategy, identify new opportunities, and make informed decisions.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing marketing team. Foster a collaborative and innovative environment that empowers team members to do their best work. Structure the team for scale, hiring and developing top talent across all marketing disciplines.
Budget Management & Forecasting
Develop and manage the annual marketing budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to achieve strategic objectives. Provide accurate forecasting, performance analysis, and regular reporting to the executive team and board.
Customer Lifecycle & Retention
Develop and implement strategies to increase customer loyalty, repeat purchases, and lifetime value. Oversee CRM, loyalty programs, and other retention-focused initiatives to build a strong and engaged customer community.
MarTech & Innovation
Evaluate, implement, and manage the marketing technology stack to enhance capabilities and drive efficiency. Stay at the forefront of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in DTC marketing to maintain a competitive edge.
Requirements for the Chief Marketing Officer with a Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Brand – Denver, CO
Experience
A minimum of 15+ years of progressive marketing experience, with at least 5-7 years in a senior leadership role (VP of Marketing, CMO, or equivalent) within a high-growth, venture-backed, or private equity-owned DTC e-commerce brand.
Proven Track Record
Demonstrable success in scaling a DTC brand from $20M-$50M to $100M+ in revenue. A portfolio of successful, integrated marketing campaigns is required.
Channel Expertise
Deep, hands-on expertise across a broad range of digital marketing channels, with a particular strength in performance marketing (paid social, search) and brand building.
Analytical Acumen
Highly analytical and data-driven. Proficient with marketing analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Looker, Tableau), attribution modeling, and cohort analysis. You must be comfortable diving deep into data to uncover insights and drive strategy.
Leadership Skills
Exceptional leadership and team management skills with a proven ability to recruit, develop, and inspire a world-class marketing organization. A player-coach mentality is essential.
Strategic Mindset
A strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture and translate high-level business objectives into tactical execution. Must be able to operate at both the 30,000-foot level and the 3-foot level.
Communication
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate a clear vision and present compelling arguments to the executive team, board members, and the entire company.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field is required. An MBA is highly preferred.
Location
This role is based in our client’s headquarters in Denver, CO. A hybrid work model is in place, but candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to the Denver metropolitan area.
