This individual will possess a deep understanding of the global diagnostics market, including competitive landscapes, emerging trends, and complex reimbursement environments. You will be responsible for a comprehensive strategy that encompasses product lifecycle management, new market entry, pricing, market access, and strategic partnerships. Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will lead a dedicated team and collaborate extensively with cross-functional leaders in R&D, Marketing, Sales, Regulatory Affairs, and Medical Affairs. Global Commercial Strategy Development

Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive global commercial strategy that aligns with the company’s overall corporate objectives. Conduct in-depth market analysis, competitive intelligence, and technology assessments to identify and prioritize growth opportunities, new applications, and geographic expansion.

Product Portfolio & Lifecycle Management

Provide commercial leadership for the entire product portfolio, from early-stage development to launch and post-market management. Collaborate with R&D to define market requirements for new products and ensure the product pipeline is commercially viable and strategically aligned. Develop and execute world-class global launch plans.

Market Access & Reimbursement Strategy

Architect and lead the global market access and reimbursement strategy. Work with regional teams to navigate diverse payer landscapes, secure favorable pricing, and achieve optimal reimbursement status across key international markets, including the US, EU, and APAC regions.

Competitive Intelligence & Market Analysis

Establish and maintain a robust competitive intelligence function to monitor the market, anticipate competitor moves, and identify disruptive technologies. Translate market insights into actionable strategies to maintain a competitive edge and drive market share growth.

Strategic Partnerships & Business Development

Identify, evaluate, and cultivate strategic partnerships, alliances, and potential M&A opportunities that support commercial objectives and accelerate growth. Collaborate with the business development team to negotiate and structure complex deals.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration

Serve as a key commercial voice on the leadership team. Foster a highly collaborative environment by working closely with Global Marketing to develop compelling value propositions and messaging, with Global Sales to equip them with strategic direction and tools, and with Regulatory and Medical Affairs to ensure cohesive go-to-market execution.

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global commercial strategy team. Cultivate a culture of innovation, accountability, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement. Set clear objectives and provide the guidance and resources necessary for the team to succeed.

Forecasting & Performance Analytics

Oversee long-range forecasting, financial modeling, and the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of commercial strategies. Provide regular, insightful reports and presentations to the executive team and Board of Directors on commercial performance and strategic initiatives.

Requirements for the VP, Global Commercial Strategy with a Diagnostics Company – Irvine, CA

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, Marketing, or a related field is required. An advanced degree (MBA, PhD, MD) is strongly preferred.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience within the diagnostics, medical device, or biotechnology industry, with at least 7-10 years in a senior leadership role in commercial strategy, global marketing, strategic planning, or business development.

Diagnostics Industry Expertise

Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a team of professionals. Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to influence and align stakeholders across all levels of the organization, from the C-suite to functional teams.

Analytical & Strategic Acumen

Superior analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be adept at interpreting complex market data, generating actionable insights, and making sound, data-driven strategic decisions. Strong financial acumen and experience with forecasting and P&L management are required.
