The Head of Corporate FP&A will serve as a crucial leader within the finance department, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. This individual will be responsible for leading all aspects of the corporate financial planning and analysis function, including the annual operating plan, long-range strategic planning, quarterly forecasting, and in-depth financial analysis. As a central figure in the finance organization, you will be the primary source of financial intelligence for the executive team, the Board of Directors, and the investment community. Key Responsibilities of Head of Corporate FP&A with a Public Technology Co. – San Jose, CA

Strategic Financial Planning

Lead the development of the company’s long-range financial plan (LRP) and the annual operating plan (AOP), partnering with the executive team to align financial targets with strategic corporate objectives.

Forecasting and Budgeting

Own and manage the corporate-level quarterly and monthly financial forecasting processes. Drive predictability and accuracy, and conduct comprehensive variance analysis of actuals versus forecast and budget to identify key business drivers and trends.

Executive and Board Reporting

Prepare and present insightful financial reporting packages and presentations for the executive leadership team, the Board of Directors, and its committees. Clearly articulate financial performance, risks, and opportunities.

Leadership and Team Development

Build, lead, and mentor a high-caliber corporate FP&A team. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, continuous improvement, and impactful business partnership. Set clear goals and manage performance to develop future leaders within the organization.

Business Partnership

Serve as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership across the company. Provide data-driven insights and financial modeling support for key strategic initiatives, new business opportunities, and operational decisions.

Public Company Support

Partner closely with the Investor Relations team to develop financial guidance, prepare for quarterly earnings calls, and create supporting materials such as scripts, Q&A documents, and investor presentations. Ensure financial narratives are consistent and accurate.

Process and Systems Enhancement

Drive continuous improvement in FP&A processes, systems, and methodologies to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and the quality of insights. Lead the evaluation and implementation of new financial planning tools and technologies as needed. Adhere to the latest financial planning and analysis best practices to ensure top-tier functional performance.

Capital Allocation and M&A

Provide analytical support for capital allocation decisions, including ROI analysis for major projects and investments. Partner with the corporate development team on financial due diligence and integration planning for potential M&A activities.

Financial Modeling

Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to support scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, and the evaluation of various strategic options. Ensure models are robust, scalable, and accurately reflect the key drivers of the business.

Requirements for the Head of Corporate FP&A with a Public Technology Co. – San Jose, CA

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is required. An MBA from a top-tier institution or a CPA designation is highly preferred.

Professional Experience

A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 8 years in a corporate FP&A role and a minimum of 5 years of experience managing and developing teams.

Industry Background

Must have significant experience working within a publicly traded technology, SaaS, or software company. A deep understanding of subscription-based business models and associated metrics (e.g., ARR, NRR, LTV, CAC) is essential.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with enterprise-level financial planning systems (e.g., Anaplan, Oracle Hyperion, Adaptive Insights, Planful).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) and BI tools (e.g., Tableau) is a plus.
