Key Responsibilities of Head of Corporate Communications with a Public FinTech – San Francisco, CA
The Head of Corporate Communications will have a broad and impactful remit, overseeing all facets of external and internal communications. Success in this role will be measured by the ability to enhance and protect the company’s reputation, build strong media and investor relationships, and foster an informed and engaged workforce.
Strategic Communications Leadership
Develop, execute, and oversee a comprehensive, multi-channel corporate communications strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives, enhances brand visibility, and supports its long-term growth trajectory.
Media Relations & Public Relations
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with top-tier business, financial, and technology journalists, editors, and influencers. Act as the primary corporate spokesperson and manage all media inquiries, press releases, and media events. Proactively secure high-impact, positive media coverage that reinforces the company’s market leadership.
Financial Communications & Investor Relations Collaboration
Play a critical role in the company’s financial communications program. Partner closely with the Investor Relations, Finance, and Legal teams to develop messaging for quarterly earnings calls, annual reports, shareholder meetings, and other key financial disclosures. Ensure all communications are accurate, consistent, and compliant with regulatory requirements, including reviewing materials related to SEC filings.
Executive Communications & Thought Leadership
Develop and manage a robust executive communications platform for the CEO and other C-suite members. This includes speechwriting, creating presentations, drafting bylines, and securing high-profile speaking engagements at industry events to establish them as leading voices in the FinTech space.
Crisis & Reputation Management
Develop and implement a proactive crisis communications plan. Lead the company’s response to any reputational threats, providing swift, strategic counsel to the executive team to mitigate risk and protect the brand.
Internal & Employee Communications
In partnership with HR, lead the internal communications strategy to drive employee engagement, alignment, and understanding of the company’s vision, strategy, and performance. Oversee all-hands meetings, leadership messages, and internal channels to foster a transparent and cohesive culture.
Content & Messaging Development
Oversee the creation of all corporate communications materials, including press releases, messaging documents, talking points, Q&As, fact sheets, and website content, ensuring a consistent brand voice and narrative across all platforms.
Team Leadership & Management
Build, mentor, and lead a world-class communications team. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, managing agency partners and departmental budgets effectively.
Requirements for the Head of Corporate Communications with a Public FinTech – San Francisco, CA
We are seeking a highly experienced and sophisticated communications leader with a proven track record of success in a publicly-traded company. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of strategic thinking, financial literacy, and executional excellence.
Experience
A minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Public Company Expertise
Essential, non-negotiable experience leading communications for a publicly-traded company. Deep familiarity with financial communications, earnings cycles, disclosure requirements (Reg FD), and the overall regulatory landscape is required.
Industry Background
Significant experience in the Technology or Financial Services sectors is strongly preferred. Direct FinTech experience is a major asset.
Media Relationships
A robust network of established relationships with key journalists and influencers at top-tier financial and business publications (e.g., Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, New York Times, Reuters, CNBC).
Exceptional Communication Skills
Superior writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. The ability to distill complex information into compelling and easily digestible narratives is paramount.
Executive Presence

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or a related field is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly desirable.
